Dassault Systèmes and Kyungnam University have joined hands to foster smart manufacturing talent.

Dassault Systèmes announced on the 16th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gyeongnam National University to foster key talents who will lead the smart manufacturing industry of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Through this MOU, the two organizations plan to cooperate in fostering key talent and expanding the employment of local college students to contribute to the development of local industries that are changing in line with education and the 4th industrial revolution.

Last year, Gyeongnam National University established a new major in Smart Machinery Convergence Engineering through the Smart Manufacturing Advanced Human Resources Training Project with the aim of fostering the best talent in Korea who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution and the new smart machine industry. It also established an interdisciplinary convergence education curriculum that combines the fields of electrical, electronic, and ICT with the mechanical field and encompasses manufacturing DNA (Data, Network, AI).

In addition, the Smart Manufacturing Support Division of Gyeongnam National University has established a smart lab at the Palyong Campus in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and is operating a smart manufacturing advanced human resource training project, an industrial complex smart factory expert human resource training project, and an industry-academia convergence zone development project to foster advanced human resources in the smart manufacturing field.

Under this agreement, Dassault Systèmes and Kyungnam University will develop a joint education program and customized certification program on practical leading technologies for students majoring in Smart Mechanical Convergence Engineering, and cooperate in research and development and industry-academia cooperation.

Additionally, both organizations have proven smart manufacturing technology. The goal is to share information on application cases and new technology development to enhance the global competitiveness of current students and further contribute to the development of local industries.

As part of this industry-academia cooperation, Dassault Systèmes operates ‘Dassault Systèmes Korea Track,’ a customized training course in the field of smart manufacturing.

By utilizing Dassault Systèmes' 3D experience platform, students will experience 3D technology, perform practical training, and perform assignments, acquire the skills necessary for actual manufacturing sites, and be trained as 3D experts.

Graduates and current students majoring in Smart Machine Convergence Engineering who complete the Dassault Systèmes Korea Track will receive various benefits, including related job training and job placement at local companies.

Kyungnam University plans to build the infrastructure necessary to operate this program and operate the education program for current students starting in the second half of 2021.

In addition, Gyeongnam National University plans to establish and operate a customized education program in the smart manufacturing field. In addition, we plan to increase corporate productivity by creating a database of various types of manufacturing industry know-how through local corporate support programs in which Kyungnam University is participating and specialized design and analysis capabilities required in defense industry research and development.

Dassault Systèmes Korea CEO Youngbin Cho said, “Since signing a business agreement with the Gyeongnam Changwon Smart Green Industrial Complex Project Group in 2019, Dassault Systèmes has been working closely with leading universities located in Changwon to contribute to fostering local talent.” He added, “We are pleased to be working with Gyeongnam National University and hope that this agreement will contribute to fostering local talent and developing local industries in the Changwon region.”

Kyungnam University Vice President for Industry-Academic Cooperation Kang Jae-gwan said, “Through the MOU with Dassault Systèmes, we have decided to actively utilize the 3D Experience platform to train design and analysis experts for the smart manufacturing human resources training project.” He added, “In addition, through Kyungnam University’s local corporate support program and joint research between industry, academia, and research institutes related to the defense industry, we will be able to contribute as a key player in Gyeongnam Smart Manufacturing.”
