According to Technavio's 2020 report, the global industrial IoT market is expected to grow from USD 133.58 billion in 2020 to USD 554.86 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 32.95%.

Also, according to a 2020 report by MarketsandMarkets, the global industrial IoT market is expected to reach $76.7 billion by 2021.It is expected to increase at an average annual growth rate of 6.7%, reaching $106.1 billion in 2026.

Additionally, according to IEIE, it is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 29% until 2025.

Although there are differences in market size across each report, it is clear that the IIoT market will continue to grow.

According to MarketsandMarkets, the networking technology market is expected to grow from USD 16.22 billion in 2021 to USD 20.83 billion by 2026, at a CAGR of 5.1%.

By connection type, wired is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.0% from USD 9.59 billion in 2021 to USD 12.26 billion in 2026, while wireless is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.3% from USD 6.64 billion in 2021 to USD 8.57 billion in 2026.

In particular, the manufacturing industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.3% from $27.9 billion in 2021 to $39.7 billion in 2026.

■ Securing technology to manage exponentially increasing data is essential

Smart factory systems interconnected with IIoT can analyze and accumulate experience on the status, quality, and energy usage of equipment based on real-time data, and based on this, can support failure prediction, proactive quality management, energy optimization, and real-time linkage with external systems.

This is the biggest difference between automated factories and smart manufacturing, which enables the assetization of industrial data.

Interconnection of industrial resources and data analysis are key to manufacturing intelligence and digital transformation, differentiating them from traditional systems.

In particular, as data generation increases exponentially during this process, appropriate data management is also becoming essential.
