KEPCO Electric Power Research Institute and Digital Substation Network Technology Join Hands
Moxa, a global industrial networking and computing solutions company, is taking full advantage of its global expansion into the digital substation market.
Moxa announced on the 29th that it has signed a business agreement (MOU) with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Power Research Institute for cooperation on digital substation network technology, thereby launching a full-scale attack on the domestic and international digital substation markets.
This agreement, signed on April 10, was promoted under the recognition that cooperation with global network specialists is essential for the stable operation and technological advancement of digital substations.
Moxa is involved in technology advancement and standard development in major international power standards organizations, such as IEC WG (IEC Working Group), CIGRE (Consortium for International Grids), and UCAlug (International User Group for Intelligent Power Grids), and currently has experience and expertise in building more than 9,200 digital substations worldwide.
Moxa will support securing process bus network design technology and verifying optimal network topology based on IEC 61850 products and technologies.
Through this agreement, the two companies will evaluate the interoperability of digital substation networks and develop redundancy technology (HSWe plan to pursue various cooperative tasks, such as cooperation on R/PRP, finding and sharing cases of efficient network operation methods using NMS (Network Management System), and discovering and promoting joint projects to expand domestic and international markets.
“Through our collaboration with Moxa, we will apply the latest network technology to digital substation operations to build a more reliable system,” said Kim Hee-soo, director of the Korea Electric Power Research Institute. “In particular, we will focus on developing technologies to expand overseas markets for digital substations, focusing on Korea and Taiwan.”
“We are deeply impressed by KEPCO’s leadership in introducing cutting-edge technologies and its digital substation technology,” said Edward Lu, Country Manager of Moxa Korea. “Based on Moxa’s experience in building IEC 61850-based digital substation networks in Europe, Asia, and around the world since 2008, we will work closely with KEPCO for the successful operation of its digital substations at home and abroad.”
Through this agreement, Moxa will strengthen its cooperation with KEPCO Research Institute and expand its domestic and international competitive solution offerings by applying its network technology to the Korean digital substation project.
Moxa also expects to serve as a bridge connecting the power industries of Korea and Taiwan, and plans to co-host the Asia-Pacific Power Summit with the Taiwan Smart Grid Association (TSGIA) and Taiwan Electric Power Corporation (Taipower) in Taiwan in late May.
Major power companies and companies from the Asia-Pacific region, including Korea Electric Power Corporation, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Australia, are expected to attend this meeting to jointly explore the future of energy.
