Microcredentials First to Receive ABET Accreditation
Siemens Digital Industries Software is pleased to announce that ABET Accreditation of Microcredentials will position the program as a key program for developing technical professionals with sustainability competencies in digital industries software.
Siemens has received ABET accreditation for its Design for the Circular Economy (Sustainable Operations pathway) microcredential, becoming the first company in the industry to receive ABET accreditation.
This certification is considered an important milestone in fostering the next generation of technical talent with sustainability capabilities.
ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) is an ISO 9001-compliant quality assurance organization responsible for accrediting excellence and qualifications for STEM academic programs and assessing student learning worldwide.
Siemens participated in the pilot study for this microcredential and contributed to the formulation of ABET certification quality assurance standards.
The microcredential was developed in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder and includes nine courses that can be used to implement sustainable and circular economy design strategies into practice.
schoolThe six courses passed ABET's rigorous quality assurance review process and received final accreditation.
“Siemens is the first industrial software company to achieve ABET accreditation, setting a new standard for developing the future engineering workforce with a certification that bridges academia and industry to help prepare students for the workforce of the future,” said Dora Smith, senior director of future workforce and academic strategy for Siemens Digital Industries Software.
“As technology and industry environments rapidly evolve, flexible, accessible, high-quality certifications support the acquisition of critical skills,” said Jessica Silwick, ABET’s CFO and COO. “Working with Siemens has allowed us to evolve our review process.”
“Online certification allows learners to build their professional skills on their own schedule, while accredited certification provides the confidence that enhances career competitiveness,” said Dr. Michael Gazaric, professor and director of the Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.
