'Physical AI' technology, in which artificial intelligence performs tasks directly in the physical environment, is being applied to domestic industrial sites on a large scale. Amid the推進 of K-Moonshot, a national strategic R&D project, AI humanoid robots are being deployed on actual automobile production lines, marking a turning point toward commercialization.

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials announced on the 20th that it recently signed a tripartite agreement with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute and KG Mobility at its headquarters in Daejeon for the development and demonstration of AI humanoid robots tailored for manufacturing sites.

This collaboration focused on verifying the performance of humanoids in actual industrial settings, beyond the laboratory, by combining the technological capabilities of research institutions with the real-world usage environments of automakers.

The humanoids developed under the agreement will be directly deployed in Cage Mobility's finished vehicle production process.

You will be evaluated on safety and on-site adaptability while performing high-difficulty tasks such as assembly and inspection, and collaborating with existing workers.

This is considered one of the first domestic cases where humanoid robots have been practically applied to industrial sites.

This project is also linked to the core tasks of the Autonomous Growth AI Humanoid Global TOP Strategy Research Group.

The research team is establishing a large-scale collaborative system involving domestic and international research institutions, universities, and companies with the goal of developing a K-AI humanoid equipped with human-level physical capabilities and general-purpose task intelligence.

Through this, we are pursuing the advancement of an evaluation system centered on actual mission execution capabilities, moving beyond simple technology development.

The roles of each organization are also clear.

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials is responsible for the standard humanoid platform and drive hardware capable of heavy-duty work and precision control.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute develops intelligent AI technology that recognizes complex manufacturing environments and understands work instructions.

KG Mobility supports on-site demonstrations by providing actual production lines and vehicles.r />
Experts believe that this demonstration will accelerate the commercialization of domestic humanoid robots and serve as a catalyst for the paradigm shift in manufacturing automation. As Physical AI technology, which combines AI and robots, becomes established in industrial settings, enhanced competitiveness in the global robot market is also anticipated.
