UiTM MyAERO Lab Presto Optium 구축
Hexagon has expanded local aerospace technology cooperation by establishing a high-precision measurement and verification system at the University of Technology and Engineering Mara (UiTM) in Malaysia. With the growing importance of design verification and quality control in aerospace manufacturing, this establishment is considered an example of industry-academia collaboration connecting industry, academia, and government agencies.
Hexagon announced on June 1 that it has completed the installation of the Presto Optium system at the MyAERO Associate Lab within the UiTM Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI) in Shah Alam, Malaysia, as a follow-up to its strategic cooperation with the National Aerospace Industries Corporation of Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia).
With the implementation of this system, MyAERO Associate Lab has secured precision measurement and simulation capabilities applicable to the fields of aerospace engineering, research, and manufacturing. Presto Optium enables the use of high-precision data in the design verification, performance testing, and manufacturing quality check processes of aerospace components.
This collaboration combines the support of NAICO Malaysia, the research infrastructure of UiTM SMRI, and the measurement technology of Hexagon. By introducing technologies used in industrial settings into university laboratories, students can experience technologies close to actual aerospace manufacturing environments, and the industry can expand its pool of skilled professionals.
Malaysia has been expanding government-level policy support and R&D investment to foster the aerospace industry into a high-value-added manufacturing sector. Consequently, strengthening capabilities across the entire supply chain, including aerospace component manufacturing, engineering services, and quality verification, has emerged as a key priority.
Shamsul Kamar Abu Sama, CEO of NAICO Malaysia, stated that this collaboration is part of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the national aerospace ecosystem. Frederic Lim, Managing Director for ASEAN, Pacific, Korea, and Japan at Hexagon, also explained that cooperation among industry, academia, and national agencies is necessary to build long-term capabilities.
With the establishment of this system, the UiTM MyAERO Associate Lab is expected to serve as a hub connecting aerospace research, education, and manufacturing quality verification. As Malaysia expands its industrial base with the goal of becoming a regional aerospace hub, the role of precision measurement and digital verification technologies is also expected to grow.
