This, in turn, increases development scale, integration, and verification complexity, making traditional manual approaches insufficient. Amidst this, Vector offers a DevOps-based automation environment optimized for the automotive industry, automating the entire development, testing, and deployment process. It also integrates with various tool chains to simultaneously improve development speed and quality. Meanwhile, Vector will be participating in the ' 2025 e4ds Tech Day ' held at the ST Center on September 9th and presenting on the topic of ' SW Factory in the SDV Era: Development Optimization Strategy through Integration and Distribution Automation '. Accordingly, our magazine met with Oh Jun-hyung, a field application engineer in Vector's Embedded Business Division, to learn about Vector's SW Factory solution.


■ I am curious about what changes the introduction of HPC or zonal controllers has brought to the development process after the transition to SDV (Software Defined Vehicle).

The transition to SDV fundamentally changes the electronic architecture within vehicles.

Moving away from the traditional distributed ECU structure, functions are centralized around high-performance computing units (HPCs) and zonal controllers, integrating multiple functions into a single controller and allowing multiple teams to participate in development simultaneously.

This has resulted in an increase in the scale of development and a rapid increase in the complexity of integration and verification.

As a result, it has become difficult to respond to rapidly changing requirements with the existing manual-centric development method.

■ Vector's SW FactoWhat is the most innovative aspect of the ry solution compared to existing development environments?

The most innovative part is that the automated development environment based on DevOps has been optimized and applied to the automotive field.

While the build, test, and release processes were previously performed manually, SW Factory automates them, enabling 'continuous integration (CI)' and 'continuous deployment (CD)'.

It also provides a flexible tool chain that integrates with various development tools, enabling developers to quickly receive feedback and increase development speed while maintaining quality.

■ I am curious about how SW Factory resolves conflicts and merge issues that arise when large teams work simultaneously on a single controller platform. I'm also curious to see how the work processes of developers and testers have changed since automation through SW Factory.

SW Factory provides an automated build and test pipeline integrated with a configuration management system to ensure consistent integration even in distributed development environments.

This allows for early detection of code conflicts or merge issues and quality verification through automated testing.

After automation, developers can focus on writing code, and changes are automatically integrated and tested, freeing them from repetitive manual tasks.

Testers focus on designing test scenarios and analyzing quality rather than manual testing, improving both the efficiency and quality of the entire development process.

■ What new features or expansion points are planned on the Vector SW Factory roadmap in preparation for the future SDV era?

In the second half of 2025, the DCM module's DID service will also have the ability to automatically generate data, and the ECUM service configuration will also support a multi-core environment, which is expected to contribute to improving efficiency and performance in diagnostic services and complex ECU systems.

■ Advice to automakers and suppliers to become competitive SDV development organizations

In the SDV era, software is the key to product competitiveness.

Therefore, organizations must go beyond simple development capabilities and internalize a DevOps culture that enables continuous integration and deployment.

To achieve this, it is essential to not only establish an automated development environment, but also strengthen the collaboration system between developers, testers, and the operations team.

It also allows for flexible response to rapidly changing technological trends. It is important to have a modular architecture and flexible tool chain.
