Digital Cockpit Leads Vehicle Digitalization, but Difficult to Adopt

Digital cockpits are evolving to enable drivers and passengers to interact with their vehicles as easily as they use their smartphones. But bringing consumer experiences into the cockpit is not a simple task. It is a complex task involving large displays, voice recognition, augmented reality (AR), access to cloud services, and sensor data.

Determining, designing, procuring and integrating the hardware, software and services required to operate these systems is time-consuming, resource-intensive and costly.

Elektrobit, a Continental subsidiary and software company that supplies embedded and connected software solutions, announced today its intelligent automotive digital cockpit solution for automobile manufacturers. 'EB Cockpit System Solutions' support the development of in-vehicle user experiences from specification, design and concept to manufacturing engineering, hardware, software and integration of third-party applications.

The new solution allows automakers to entrust Elektrobit experts with the design of bespoke cockpit designs, and was first used to support the development of Sony Group’s VISION-S prototype electric car. Vehicle manufacturers can use the solution to develop differentiated solutions without the investment and resources required for everything from vehicle development to maintenance.

In response to Sony’s desire for an intuitive automotive user experience, Elektrobit developed a high-performance computer-based cockpit system that incorporated Sony’s UX design and custom infotainment software. It also supported the integration of digital mirrors, 3D glasses, and door-to-door display panels.

EB is building partnerships with Amazon (Alexa Auto, Alexa Custom Assistant), Google (Android Automotive), Qualcomm, Infineon, Renesas, and Blackberry QNX. Customers can utilize EB’s network.
