Promoting decarbonization by leading the hydrogen truck business
Hydrogen standard lecture through own program Hyundai Motor Company will continue to actively train standards experts so that its hydrogen technology can become an international standard.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Standards and Technology held the '2022 Hydrogen Economy Standards International Conference' on the 14th, providing a venue for domestic and international standards experts to share the latest hydrogen technology standard trends and standardization directions.
Park Cheol-woo, head of Hyundai Motor Company, said at the event, “Carbon neutrality is difficult to achieve through vehicle electrification alone,” and announced, “We will reduce carbon emissions through hydrogen electric vehicles and continue active standardization activities so that Hyundai Motor Company’s technology can become the standard.”
The proliferation of electric vehicles has grown rapidly in recent years, and it is true that they are a great help to the environment.
However, the rising price of raw materials for electric vehicle batteries is becoming a burden to both manufacturers and consumers.
“Hydrogen cars are expected to play a complementary role in this,” said Park. “Hydrogen cars are more efficient when driven over a certain distance.”
Battery electric vehicles are more suitable for vehicles that mainly drive short distances, while hydrogen electric vehicles are more advantageous for commercial vehicles that drive long distances. there is.
Research is actively being conducted to expand the hydrogen truck business and advance decarbonization based on CV FCEVs that maximize these advantages.
In addition, Hyundai Motor Company is taking steps to secure the technical aspects of the FC system and take the lead in the market.
Park said, “We are conducting standardization activities so that what Hyundai Motor Company is researching and developing can become the standard,” and “To this end, we have trained standardization experts and laid the foundation for announcing international standards.”
Hyundai Motor is involved in the creation of more than 10 standards and is active in eight working groups.
In particular, he is contributing and working on ISO 19885, which creates charging protocols.
Last year, Hyundai Motor Company presented five presentations at the ISO 19885 meeting on hydrogen charging and use cases.
To expand its position in international standards, Hyundai Motor Company opened its own program called ‘Learning Lab’ and invited experts to give lectures and discussions on international standards and hydrogen standards.
“Hyundai Motor Company hopes to help the global hydrogen economy arrive more quickly,” said Park Cheol-woo, adding, “We will make a major contribution to linking and cooperating with standards.”
