e-Vehicle System Center Signboard Ceremony Held
Expected to serve as a hub for Indonesia's electric mobility industry

Korea Automobile Research Institute (KARI) is taking the lead in building an electric mobility industry ecosystem in Indonesia.

On the 16th, Hanjayun announced that it held a 'Korea-Indonesia e-Mobility Cooperation Center Signboard Ceremony' at the LEMIGAS Research Complex in South Jakarta, Indonesia on the 15th (local time). The ceremony was attended by approximately 40 people, including Jang Young-jin, 1st Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Na Seung-sik, President of Hanjayun, Dadan Kusdiana, Director General of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Vice Ministerial Level), Irfan Maksum, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Facilities and Infrastructure, and officials from Korea and Indonesia.

This event is part of the Korea-Indonesia Electric Vehicle Cooperation ODA Project (2022-2026) supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and promoted by Hanjayun.

Ahead of the opening of the Korea-Indonesia e-Mobility Cooperation Center in September 2023, the ceremony was held to form a consensus with the governments and local companies of Korea and Indonesia to take the lead in the Indonesian electric mobility market and promote exports.

The contents of the Korea-Indonesia electric vehicle cooperation ODA project being promoted by Hanjayeon include: △ distribution and verification of electric vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles, △ establishment of infrastructure such as charging stations and maintenance facilities to promote distribution, △ establishment of maintenance A/S centers and training of related experts, △ establishment of Indonesian electric vehicle mobility distribution system and promotion policy, etc. It is planned.

Starting with the opening of the Korea-Indonesia e-Mobility Cooperation Center (scheduled for September), Hanjaeyeon expects that it will serve as a hub for cooperation in the electric mobility industry between the two countries, while also providing effective support for the establishment of Indonesia’s e-mobility infrastructure.

Na Seung-sik, President of Hanjayeon, said, “The movement to develop energy solutions and new mobility to achieve global carbon neutrality is accelerating,” and added, “Through active technological exchanges between the two countries, we will take the lead in activating e-mobility in Indonesia and shifting the paradigm to sustainable, eco-friendly transportation.”

In addition, President Na Seung-sik of Hanjaeyeon visited the LG Energy Solution-Hyundai Motor battery joint venture factory with a delegation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and had time to review the difficulties faced by our companies entering the local market.

Indonesia, a country that holds about 24% of the world's nickel reserves and produces battery raw materials such as manganese and cobalt, has been suspending all nickel ore exports since the end of 2019 and is actively attracting investment from overseas companies producing electric vehicles and batteries.

Hyundai Motor Company began mass production of the IONIQ 5 in the Delta Mas Industrial Complex in Bekasi, Indonesia in March 2022.

According to Hyundai Motor Company, the Indonesian plant is built on a site of 777,000 square meters and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units by the end of this year and 250,000 units in the future.

The total investment is approximately $1.55 billion, including product development and plant operating costs.
