3 research institutes, 14 headquarters, and 35 centers under the 1st General Management Office
The Korea Automobile Research Institute (KARRI) (President Jin Jong-wook, hereinafter referred to as KARRI) has laid the foundation for its leap forward as a future mobility research hub through organizational restructuring.
Hanjayeon announced on the 4th that it has undertaken a large-scale organizational restructuring to secure leadership in future mobility technologies such as AI, autonomous driving, and carbon neutrality.
This reorganization aims to proactively implement government policies and systematize the implementation organization according to the new institutional vision, thereby achieving a leap forward as a comprehensive platform research institute connecting technology, policy, business, and human resources.
The new vision was established after three months of discussion by an internal staff-led task force team following the inauguration of Director Jin Jong-wook in February 2025.
Afterwards, the existing organizational structure centered on 5 research institutes and 57 laboratories was reorganized into a slimmer and more functional structure, with 3 research institutes, 14 headquarters, and 35 centers under 1 general management.
The core of this reorganization is to strengthen the expertise of the research organization and integrate the administrative system.
The research division consists of the AI and Autonomous Driving Technology Research Center, the Carbon Neutral Technology Research Center, an independent headquarters, and four regional branches, and each research center will have a dedicated headquarters to focus its technology development capabilities.
The AI and Autonomous Driving Technology Research Center encompasses connectivity and AI-based platform technologies, including △Big Data & Middot;SDV has four research centers: △Intelligent Control and Safety △Connectivity and Security △Platform.
The Carbon Neutral Technology Research Institute expands its research beyond eco-friendly technologies to include lightweight and material technologies, focusing on power control, electric power, hydrogen power, and materials.
In particular, reflecting the growth in the testing and reliability fields, the independent headquarters has established the following headquarters: △Reliability △Testing Certification △Radio Environment Headquarters, and △Daekyung △Gwangju △Jeonnam △Gyeonggi regional branches are maintained to ensure regionally dispersed research.
The administrative sector has integrated policy and corporate support functions by establishing the Industrial Policy Headquarters and Corporate Growth Headquarters within the Industrial Research Institute, and has also established a separately organized Management Strategy Headquarters and a new role of 'Management General Manager' to promote the efficiency of organizational operations.
President Jin Jong-wook emphasized, “The automobile industry is undergoing unprecedented changes due to technological innovation and eco-friendly trends,” and “Through this reorganization, the research center will lead future mobility technology and lay the foundation for sustainable growth across the industry.”
