Vector Korea (CEO Ji-Hwan Jang), a global vehicle network and embedded system specialist, has begun working in earnest to drastically reduce the cost of reworking Volkswagen's ECU software and increase production efficiency.

Vector announced on the 22nd that it is supplying Volkswagen with its ECU software reprogramming tool 'vFlash', contributing to improving automobile production quality and preventing software rework.

Volkswagen has strict quality standards that require that all electronic control units (ECUs) in its vehicles be equipped with accurate software.

Previously, ECUs with errors had to be moved to a temporary parking lot and reworked, which resulted in huge costs and delivery delays.

Accordingly, Volkswagen introduced Vector's vFlash as a strategy to increase the 'Direct Run Rate (DRR)' of vehicles ready for delivery.

vFlash is a tool for programming ECUs using diagnostic services (such as UDS) via a GUI or automated script. It supports over 180 flash specifications and is used by over 100 automobile manufacturers.

In particular, the vFlash Station can connect multiple ECUs in parallel and update software simultaneously, making it optimized for mass production environments. It is evaluated as a solution.

At Volkswagen's Emden, Germany, plant, a custom application has been developed to control the vFlash Station, enabling rapid updates to multiple ECUs on-site.

Updated ECUs are automatically labeled to enable software status tracking, and suppliers can also supply error-free modules, improving overall production efficiency.

By introducing this system, Volkswagen has dramatically reduced the cost of ECU software rework, maintained a high throughput rate without production interruption, and significantly increased delivery compliance and customer trust.

In fact, since the full implementation of vFlash Station in 2023, it has achieved cost savings of millions of euros, and the solution was even selected as 'Volkswagen Idea of the Year 2024'.
