Focus on ICT portfolio value-up and non-core asset securitization
SK Square (CEO Han Myung-jin) is making preemptive investments centered on promising AI and semiconductor small and medium-sized companies, and is focusing on expanding its ICT portfolio and securitizing non-core assets.
SK Square announced on the 29th that it has completed investments in five technology companies in the U.S. and Japan to strengthen its global investment capabilities in the AI and semiconductor fields.
SK Square is pursuing a preemptive investment plan worth a total of KRW 100 billion, and has so far invested approximately KRW 20 billion in five companies.
In addition, we plan to expand our investment in AI chips and infrastructure in the mid- to long-term by securing financial resources of more than 1.3 trillion won.
SK Square is making preemptive investments, focusing on promising companies in the AI and semiconductor sub-sectors (materials, parts, and equipment).
The investment targets are innovative companies in the U.S. and Japan that possess unique technologies and patents (IP), and the goal is to secure future IPO (initial public offering) and additional investment opportunities.
Currently, SK Square and its joint venture companies have secured shares in five companies: d-Matrix (USA), TetraMem (USA), AIOCORE (Japan), LINK-US (Japan), and Kyulux (Japan), and some of the companies are in the process of pursuing the next investment round.
/> In particular, D-Matrix is a company developing AI inference chips for data centers, and is receiving a lot of attention from the global market as Microsoft and Singapore state-owned investment company Temasek are major shareholders.
Tetramem is a company founded by key researchers from HP and is leading the development of AI chips based on ReRAM (resistive random access memory), while IOCore is an innovative Japanese company developing optical communication modules using the photon access method.
SK Square is strengthening its cooperation with SK Hynix to expand its investment in AI chips and infrastructure. To this end, it has secured over 1.3 trillion won in financial resources this year alone, and is reviewing investment opportunities such as the AI chip sector and the AI infrastructure sector.
Recently, SK Square appointed Managing Director Do Hyeon-woo as the representative of 'TGC Square', an overseas AI and semiconductor investment corporation, and is pursuing expansion of its global investment network and strengthening of its deal pipeline.
SK Square CEO Han Myeong-jin said, “This year, we will focus on increasing the value of our ICT portfolio and securitizing non-core assets, while also steadily increasing new investments in AI and semiconductors,” and announced plans to continue cooperation with companies leading the global AI and semiconductor markets.
