Efforts to restore river ecosystem and improve water quality since 2016
Applied Materials Korea (CEO Kwang-sun Park), a leading global advanced semiconductor and display materials engineering solutions company, has been recognized for its leading role in protecting the sustainable environment.
Applied announced on the 5th that it received the Minister of Environment Award on the 30th Environment Day.
This award recognizes the company's ongoing environmental protection activities and contributions to the community, and Applied has made various efforts to restore river ecosystems and improve water quality since 2016.
Through the 'Guardians of Our Rivers' program, Applied has been monitoring non-point sources of pollution, making and throwing EM soil balls, planting water purifying plants, and eradicating ecosystem-disrupting plants in 10 rivers, including Hwanggujicheon, Osancheon, Gongneungcheon, and Jungnangcheon.
About 50,000 citizens participated in this program, which resulted in substantial improvements in river water quality.
Applied has also contributed to community education by planting 12,000 trees in the Tancheon Wetland in Seongnam City and sponsoring environmental experience programs for approximately 8,000 local elementary, middle, and high school students from 2016 to 2022.
The program is certified as an excellent environmental education program by the Ministry of Environment and is an important part of environmental protection.It contributed to making the topic widely known.
