Reference Board Unveiled Achieving 3.3×3.9mm Mount Area and 97% Efficiency

ROHM has developed an ultra-small power board that supports the miniaturization and low-power operation of battery-powered electronic devices, and it is expected to be utilized to improve the design efficiency of wearable and IoT devices.

ROHM announced on the 23rd that it has developed a reference board 'BD83070GWL-EVK-002' based on a step-up/step-down DC-DC converter IC.

This product was designed utilizing the performance of the power IC 'BD83070GWL'. The IC achieves up to 97% efficiency and an ultra-low standby current of 2.8μA.

The circuit board consists of a total of five components, including ICs, coils, and capacitors, and the mounting area is 12.87 mm² (3.3 mm × 3.9 mm).

The company explained that a key feature is the reduced design area compared to existing step-up/step-down power configurations.

In addition, design information such as circuit patterns and Bill of Materials (BOM) was disclosed to enable its use in evaluation and mass production design.

This substrate can be applied to small battery-based devices such as wearables, mobile devices, and IoT devices.

Examples of application include wearables such as smartwatches and smart rings, smartphones and AR/VR devices, IoT sensor nodes and BLE devices, and wireless earphones and small drones.

The product began supply in June and is also sold through online distribution channels.

ROHM stated that it is continuing to develop power solutions to meet the demands of the battery device market, where miniaturization and low power requirements are increasing.
