MyForum Hosts '2020 Latest Shielding Technology Seminar'
Six programs on shielding techniques and materials are underway. CES 2020, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, concluded on the 10th. As in the past decade, the star of this year's CES was, once again, the automobile. The current key word in the automotive industry is "CASE," an acronym for Connected, Autonomous, Electrification, and Shared.
As ICT converges, the proportion of electrical components in automobiles is increasing. Automobiles are transforming from machines into electronic products. Consequently, when developing automotive products, we are entering an era where we must also consider issues previously overlooked: the challenges of electronic products.

As the functional stability of electronic products becomes increasingly important, the 2020 Latest Shielding Technology Seminar, hosted by MyForum, was held on the 14th at the Yangjae aT Center in Seoul.
There's no electronic device that doesn't have a power supply circuit. The role of a power supply circuit is to supply power, and supplying power inevitably generates electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves affect the operation of electronic components in electronic products. This is called electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Safety is a top priority in automobiles, but malfunctions in electrical systems caused by electromagnetic waves can have fatal consequences for the driver. Therefore, achieving electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) to ensure electrical systems can overcome EMI and function properly is becoming increasingly important.
Electromagnetic shielding is one way to solve EMI/EMC problems.
Electromagnetic shielding is a technique to protect sensitive electronic components by surrounding them with conductors or ferromagnetic materials to block the transmission of external electromagnetic waves. It can also be used to reduce EMI by surrounding unnecessary electromagnetic wave sources so that electromagnetic waves generated internally do not adversely affect the external electromagnetic environment.
The 2020 Latest Shielding Technology Seminar consisted of a total of six programs: ▲'Design Guideline Shielding for EMI/EMC' presented by Themis R&D CEO Dong-Kyun Lee, ▲'Trends in High-Density Thermal Management and Heat Dissipation Technology in Electronic Devices' presented by Seok-Hwan Moon, Senior Researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), ▲'Superclad Composite Materials by Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Aluminum' presented by Professor Kwon Han-Sang of Pukyong National University, ▲'AccuNanoWire™ Silver Coated Copper Nanowire' introduced by Bioneer Managing Director Jae-Ha Kim, ▲'Electromagnetic Shielding Principles and Technology Trends' presented by Professor Hyun-Ho Park of Suwon University, ▲'EMI Shielding Polymer Composite Technology' presented by Se-Won Han, Center Director at the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI).
Themis R&D CEO Dong-Kyun Lee said, “There is no right answer to EMI suppression because there are over 500 million EMI generating factors,” but added, “The five methods of reviewing circuits and components, wiring and cabling, grounding and bonding, filtering, and shielding form the framework for resolving EMI.”
In this way, “EMI suppression is in the order of EMI measurement - establishment of conducted emission countermeasures - establishment of radiated emission countermeasures. He emphasized that “the EMI problem requires a systematic approach that integrates theoretical background and empirical knowledge about electromagnetic waves.”
Meanwhile, the 2020 Latest Shielding Technology Seminar was held as part of the 'Tech Summit 2020' hosted by MyForum, ahead of the '2020 Next-Generation Camera Module and Advanced Sensor Latest Technology Seminar', the '2020 Transportation Equipment Lightweight Composite Latest Technology Seminar', and the '2020 Future Automobile Software and Autonomous Driving Latest Technology Seminar'.
