Intel Optane SSDs speed up caching and storage
'Crow Pass' 3rd generation Optane persistent memory,
Two-tier architecture with DRAM/NAND combination Intel, which sold its NAND business to SK Hynix, appears to be focusing on its Optane business.
On the 17th, Intel held the Memory & Storage Moment 2020 event and unveiled a total of six new memory and storage products, three each.

The three memory products are: △Intel Optane SSD P5800X for data centers, △Intel Optane Memory H20 for clients, and △3rd generation 'Intel Optane Persistent Memory.'
The three storage products are △144-layer QLC 3D NAND SSD 'Intel SSD 670p', △144-layer TLC NAND SSD 'Intel SSD D7-P5510', and △144-layer QLC NAND-based high-density, high-strength SSD 'Intel SSD D5-P5316'.
◇ Strengthening Optane business to alleviate data bottlenecks SK Hynix acquired Intel’s NAND division for about 10 trillion won last October. However, Intel’s Optane business was not included in the deal, and the full acquisition will be completed by March 2025.
Optane is a memory developed by Intel together with Micron to implement high-performance computing, and is designed to alleviate data bottlenecks by narrowing the distance between processors and storage.
The two Optane SSDs announced by Intel this time accelerate application execution by increasing caching and storage speeds, increasing scalability per server and reducing transaction costs for latency-sensitive workloads.
The third-generation Intel Optane persistent memory, codenamed 'Crow Pass', is a solution that efficiently connects memory and storage layers.
The memory is connected to the CPU via a double-data rate (DDR) bus. It also integrates the strengths of memory and storage, and has non-volatile characteristics while allowing direct loading and saving at DRAM speeds.
Users can configure a two-tier memory architecture that utilizes the performance tier of DRAM and the capacity tier of Optane persistent memory, or a two-tier storage architecture that utilizes the capacity tier of NAND and the performance tier of Optane persistent memory.
Intel will strengthen and expand its unique memory and storage solutions with third-generation Optane persistent memory and the Intel Xeon® Scalable processor, code-named “Sapphire Rapids.”
