As supply chain instability and global uncertainty become a burden to companies, ERP equipped with the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, data-based, and business automation is contributing to improving business efficiency, and companies are quickly switching to next-generation ERP.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 10th that it has completed construction of the next-generation 'N-ERP' system, a digital innovation business platform necessary to respond to the future management environment. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a system that integrates and manages a company's physical and financial resources and contributes to work processing efficiency.

Samsung Electronics, which started the 'N-ERP' project in October 2018, sequentially applied 'N-ERP' to Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and China in April of last year, and to domestic business sites starting in January of this year, and completed it stably by the first quarter of this year.

Amidst the changing business environment, including the emergence of new businesses and convergence, Samsung Electronics has been developing a next-generation business platform for three years with global ERP company SAP and Samsung SDS to efficiently support business innovation across production, sales, and management.

'N-ERP' applies new technologies such as △system integration and introduction of specialized solutions for new business response, △improvement of system performance for data-based decision-making, and △decision-making support and work automation through artificial intelligence.

'N-ERP', which incorporates artificial intelligence, has integrated systems by field such as sales management and improved process efficiency. It can also be applied to convergence businesses such as D2C (Direct to Consumer) and Omni-channel, which integrates online and offline shopping experiences.

In addition, by introducing SAP specialized solutions, we support collaboration efficiency with partners through △Advance Promise Management (aATP), △EWM (Earning Warehouse Management), and △Transport Management (TM) to respond to diverse supply chain environments in the era of logistics diversification.

'N-ERP' enables real-time analysis of large amounts of data, such as online order status and supply chain status, to enable management simulation and risk sensing. It supports data-based decision-making and increases processing speed by applying an 'in-memory database' that integrates data storage and calculation. By building a high-performance, high-capacity system that connects databases in parallel, we can stably respond to rapid data growth.

In addition, convenience has been improved by utilizing machine learning to support decision-making, optical character recognition (OCR) to automate data work or repetitive tasks, and robotic process automation (RPA) technologies.

After three months of operation utilizing these functions, Samsung Electronics evaluated that work processing speed and productivity were significantly improved.

According to Samsung Electronics, when simulating a new supply plan according to changes in the market environment, it used to take more than an hour to check whether the necessary materials were available, but with the application of N-ERP, it is now possible to do so in less than 10 minutes. They said that this has enabled diverse and precise simulations, allowing for more accurate establishment of supply plans. They also added that the status of direct consumer orders, which is rapidly increasing due to the expansion of D2C, has been shortened to within 3-4 minutes.

Moon Sung-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Management Innovation Center, said, “N-ERP is a next-generation platform that can enhance business agility and productivity,” adding, “It will play a pivotal role in supporting Samsung Electronics’ digital innovation.”
