Launch of the Semiconductor Industry Security Council

A consultative body was established to prepare industrial security response measures for the semiconductor sector, including protecting semiconductors as a national core technology, and to improve the system.

The Korea Semiconductor Industry Association is promoting the ‘Semiconductor Industry Security Council’ with the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and major semiconductor companies to protect national core technologies in the semiconductor sector.

To this end, on July 29, the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and 10 other companies and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association held the ‘Semiconductor Industry Security Council Inauguration Ceremony’ at the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association Hall.

At the inauguration ceremony held on this day, members and officials from the public and private sectors gathered to share the purpose of the council, discuss future operation plans and specific directions for promotion, and elect a chairman.

The council will promote institutional improvement and realistic technology protection measures by collecting opinions from semiconductor companies, discuss opinions on the revision of the 'Act on Prevention of Leakage and Protection of Industrial Technology' and measures to protect professional manpower according to the 'Special Measures Act on Strengthening and Protecting the Competitiveness of National Advanced Strategic Industries' (Semiconductor Special Act) that will be implemented in August of this year, and establish a guideline for preventing semiconductor technology leakage.am.

The council, which includes 10 major domestic semiconductor companies including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and DB HiTek, is planned to receive active support from the National Intelligence Service and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association.

A semiconductor association official said, “With the launch of this council, we expect that the current industrial technology protection system will be improved to reflect the voices of semiconductor companies, and efficient management measures will be devised for semiconductor technology, which has a large impact on national security and the economy.”
