Renewable energy electricity purchase rate 62%, carbon neutrality target by 2027 on track
Responsible product ratio: New products account for 77% and 23% of total sales
STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company supporting diverse electronic applications and customers, has achieved good results in all sustainability indicators, including progress toward achieving its 2027 carbon neutrality goal.
ST announced on the 25th that it recently released its annual sustainability report detailing its 2022 performance, strategies, and ongoing implementation plans.

ST's priorities for sustainability topics are regularly identified and formalized through concrete actions with multiple stakeholders, and ST reports follow the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for stakeholder inclusivity, sustainability status, specificity and completeness.
ST’s sustainability performance across multiple areas has been repeatedly recognized by several ESG rankings, indices and international certifications, including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World and Europe, EuroNext VIGEO Europe 120, FTSE4Good, ISS ESG Corporate Rating and MSCI.
ST’s 2022 ESG performance and progress demonstrates that ST’s technologies and products are helping customers increase sustainability and seize opportunities by continuously improving corporate social responsibility and environmental impact throughout the product life cycle.
It was found that 77% of new products (69% in 2021) are responsible products, and 23% of total sales (20% in 2021) are generated from responsible products.
Responsible products are products that provide environmental and social benefits.
Also ST is 20The company has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2027 and is making smooth progress toward this goal (energy and climate change), while continuously expanding its manufacturing capacity and making active efforts to reduce its environmental footprint in 2022.
Key achievements include a 40% reduction in absolute terms of Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions since 2018 (34% reduction in 2021), an increase in the share of electricity purchased from renewable energy sources to 62% (51% in 2021), and an increase in the reuse, regeneration and recycling rate of corporate waste to 95% (90% in 2021), achieving the 2025 target ahead of schedule.
ST also continues to put people first through measures and training to support a more diverse and inclusive culture, as well as continuing to promote health and safety, talent acquisition and engagement activities.
Key achievements include incorporating sustainability performance into incentive programs for more than 21,000 employees and having more than 19,000 employees complete training in a new leadership model designed to support the company’s transformation journey in 2022.
86% of employees (+3 points compared to 2021) recommended ST as a Great Place to Work (talent attraction and engagement activities), and the Recordable Case Rate (work-related injuries per 100 employees per year) of employees further decreased to 0.10 (0.12 in 2021), achieving industry-leading performance.
The female exemption recruitment rate achieved the 30% target for two consecutive years.

With over 450 STEM events and initiatives (Community & Education) involving over 100,000 students and teachers, the 26th Annual Report contains key findings and details on ST’s sustainability performance through 2022 and sets out ST’s vision and long-term goals in line with the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
This is also consistent with the standards of GRI (Global Reporting Standards), SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Boards), and TCFD (Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures).
