Kim Chang-hwan, Vice President of Electrification Energy Solutions at Hyundai Motor Company, presented on the topic of “Mobility Electrification Solutions: Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Batteries” at OktoberTech Seoul 2025, hosted by Infineon Technologies and held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul on the 22nd, and revealed Hyundai Motor Company’s philosophy of leading the way in sustainable technology innovation beyond electrification technology.

Vice President Kim Chang-hwan said that the electric vehicle market has recently been struggling with the so-called chasm, a slowdown in demand, and discussions are taking place on fundamental solutions such as safety, and that it is a time when protection of technological innovation is necessary.

Also, with regard to hydrogen cars, it is in its infancy. It is just entering the growth phase, and it is expected that demand will increase in earnest from 2030 when the price of hydrogen falls.

Hyundai Motor's electric vehicle market has shown rapid growth in recent years.

Hyundai Motor Company, which has swept the global automobile industry by introducing innovative models such as the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, is continuing to develop technologies that enhance charging speed, safety, and efficiency.

In particular, we are focusing on maximizing battery performance based on the dedicated platform, E-GMP, and realizing long-distance driving and fast charging.

Recently, the electric vehicle market has been experiencing a slowdown in demand in some countries, but Hyundai Motor Company is focusing on securing price competitiveness and improving charging infrastructure to respond to these changes.

We are also continuing technological innovations to provide short charging times and long driving ranges through the development of high-performance batteries.

Hyundai Motor Company is taking a leading role in the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle sector.

By continuing to develop its technology, it has recorded sales of over 40,000 units in the global hydrogen car market.

The flagship model, Nexo, boasts technological prowess that innovatively improves not only performance and design but also user experience, with a driving range of up to 700 km and a charging time of less than 5 minutes.

Hyundai Motor Company is applying hydrogen technology to various industries, including logistics and power generation, to expand the hydrogen ecosystem, and it is expected that full-scale market expansion will occur as hydrogen prices fall.

We are also continuing research to improve the performance and durability of fuel cell stacks, while securing cost reduction and cost competitiveness.

Hyundai Motor Company is setting battery and hydrogen technologies as key solutions for realizing ‘zero carbon mobility.’

In the battery field, cells and systems are batteries. We are working on performance improvement and development diversification, and are actively pursuing maximizing system integration and structural integration. All-solid-state batteries are a solution that can secure ultimate safety, and we are actively developing them to increase driving distance. In terms of safety technology, we are spurring BMS continuous safety diagnosis and system safety structure design. We are also actively working to ensure the safety of electric vehicles by preventing exposure to external flames using thermal electrical prevention technology.

In addition, we are strengthening the core performance of NCM-based batteries, diversifying battery development through optimization by vehicle type and region, and maximizing system integration, and strengthening the development capacity of all-solid-state batteries to improve safety and driving range, centered on the Uiwang Next-Generation Battery Research Center.

In the hydrogen field, safety and practicality are being strengthened simultaneously through improvements in shock prevention and sensor technology.

We have developed a technology that can monitor the level of performance deterioration and output control in real time through the application of fuel cell stack diagnostic technology, and are also conducting system design and safety verification to prevent damage and explosion caused by safe charging and storage of high-pressure hydrogen, overpressure and overtemperature.

We are also expanding the charging infrastructure for electric and hydrogen vehicles and focusing on providing eco-friendly technologies and sustainable mobility experiences in the future mobility market.
