Implementing NPU-based edge AI through AWS IoT Greengrass integration
AI semiconductor specialist Mobilint is accelerating its conquest of the global edge AI market through collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The agreement, which began at CES 2025, has been concretized to link Mobilint’s high-performance NPU (neural processing unit) to AWS’s edge computing platform AWS IoT Greengrass, and based on this, they plan to fully pursue joint marketing and strategic customer acquisition activities.
Mobilint announced on the 23rd that it is attracting attention from the industry by introducing a technical collaboration plan with AWS at the Embedded Vision Summit (EVS) 2025 currently being held in San Jose, USA. In particular, it emphasized the possibility of applying edge AI by presenting a demo utilizing the 'MLA100 MXM', an MXM form factor AI accelerator that was first unveiled.
The MLA100 MXM is a high-performance, low-power edge AI module designed based on Mobilint's AI accelerator chip 'ARIES'.
It provides up to 80 TOPS of computational performance with 25W of power consumption and can process multiple AI models in parallel through eight NPU cores. Additionally, with a size of 82x70mm and a lightweight design of 110g, it is suitable for space-constrained systems such as robotics and industrial automation.
Once an environment is created where Mobilint's NPU can be directly utilized on the AWS platform, customers will be able to more effectively implement core functions required in edge computing, such as real-time data processing, AI inference, and local information protection.
In particular, linking Amazon SageMaker and Mobilint’s NPU SDK is expected to greatly improve the developer experience by simplifying the AI model learning, deployment, and optimization processes. This is expected to bring about groundbreaking changes in various application fields such as smart factories, autonomous driving, and industrial robots utilizing AI.
Mobilint CEO Shin Dong-joo said, “This collaboration with AWS is significant in that it goes beyond simple technology linkage and presents an NPU-based integrated solution in the global edge AI market.” He added, “Based on the market response confirmed at the EVS site, we will actively pursue joint marketing and customer acquisition activities with AWS.”
