Park Moon-soo, Manager of Infineon Korea, who presented on the topic of 'Global HVAC Trends and Infineon Motor Control Solutions Optimized for Noise/Vibration Reduction' at the e4ds ee webinar on the 27th, stated that the use of efficient motor controllers is absolutely essential to actively respond to environmental issues such as global warming and the global heat island phenomenon in the recent HVAC market.

Park Moon-soo, Vice President, recently stated that the global HVAC (heating, ventilation, & air conditioning) industry is making various attempts to find solutions to the steadily increasing energy consumption of heating and cooling devices and the worsening environmental problems such as global warming and the urban heat island phenomenon.

In addition, since the refrigerant gas regulations that began in 2015 have lowered thermal efficiency when using materials with low global warming indices, manufacturers are trying to compensate for this lowered efficiency by optimizing the cooling system inside the board or replacing power components with more efficient ones, and are reviewing various options, such as using SiC or GaN, it was reported.

iMotion is a solution that supports full parameter tuning so that even non-experts can easily perform motor control.

iMotion products basically consist of three lineups: iMotion controller, gate driver integrated type, and single-chip IPM type with built-in IGBT or MOSFET.

These products support both sensorless and sensored methods for controlling 3-phase BLDC motors, and are equipped with algorithms that innovatively reduce noise and vibration, and are highly evaluated in noise-sensitive home appliance fields such as air conditioner indoor units, compressors, dehumidifiers, and heat exchangers.

In his presentation, Vice President Park Moon-soo explained that unlike existing hardware logic-based products or MCU-based control methods, the iMotion solution can easily implement the FOC (Field Oriented Control) algorithm with the help of fully integrated parameter settings and a dedicated tuning guide.

In particular, it applies a patented algorithm that compensates for the 'dead zone' problem that inevitably occurs in the sensorless method, contributing to smooth motor operation even in low RPM ranges and minimum noise in windless mode.

Actual measurement results showed that products using the iMotion solution showed a noise reduction effect of up to 30dB or more compared to competing products, which is expected to be directly linked to the high evaluation consumers give to 'quiet high-end home appliances'.

Additionally, Vice President Park Moon-soo also introduced the PSOC™ Control C3, a family of MCU-based motor control products that are solutions for more complex systems.

PSOC™ Control C3 is available in two versions, 100MHz and 180MHz, with Arm® M33 core, and implements extreme control precision through high-frequency PWM output, ADC (analog-to-digital converter) channels with up to 12 megasample rates, and 16-channel simultaneous measurement capabilities.

In particular, due to the free pin arrangement and flexible interface configuration, it is expected to greatly contribute to reducing design costs for customers by minimizing constraints in board layout design.

PSOC™ Control C3 solutions are divided into entry and main line products, and provide integrated support for single or dual motor control as well as PFC (Power Factor Correction) functions.

Entry products are available primarily in 48-pin to 64-pin packages and incorporate basic sensorless FOC algorithms.

The mainline products are designed to address a wider range of applications with HRPWM support and more input/output pins, multi-channel motor control, and future planned dual-motor FOC algorithm releases.

Like this The solution is equipped with various safety and protection functions including UL certification, effectively preventing overcurrent, overheating, and clock errors that may occur within the power control system.

In addition, by providing a dedicated software tool (iMotion Solution Designer) that allows customers to easily set motor parameters and debug in real time, it is also helping significantly shorten the product development cycle and reduce initial testing costs.
