Anti-counterfeiting and digital product passport requirements met
NXP Semiconductors has reached a significant technological milestone with the launch of a new security tag that could make it easier to meet digital product passport requirements and help combat counterfeiting.
NXP has officially announced its new Type 4 Secure Connected NFC tag, ‘NTAG X DNA’.
This product is designed to easily and quickly verify the authenticity of products or devices by combining 16KB high-density memory, 848kbps high-speed data transfer speed, and Secure Unique NFC (SUN) authentication.
In particular, NTAG X DNA is expected to greatly assist manufacturers in meeting anti-counterfeiting and Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements.
NTAG X DNA enables mobile devices to securely transfer data via I2C or NFC interfaces, and is expected to be utilized in a variety of fields including healthcare, smart home, mobile and gaming accessories, and industrial applications.
Consumers can easily check the authenticity of a product before purchasing it using the NFC function, contributing to increasing brand trust and eradicating counterfeit products.
In fact, the EU The use of DPP is planned to be mandatory by 2027, whereby information such as product composition, country of origin, and life cycle will be digitized and recorded.
“NTAG X DNA significantly improves the consumer experience with a dual interface that enables single-touch access to device information, authentication, and onboarding,” said Alasdair Ross, senior director of NFC IoT Security at NXP. “It is compatible with all NFC mobile devices and supports UID and certificate delivery and additional certificate generation via NXP’s EdgeLock 2GO credential delivery service.”
The NTAG X DNA is an ISO/IEC 14443-4 based product supporting both NFC and I2C, and also provides full device diagnostic capabilities via direct connection to the MCU.
Device information can be safely stored and accessed in 16KB memory even when the device is powered off, and personal information can be protected through the sensitive information deletion function in emergency situations when necessary.
These features promise superior performance and stability over previous generations, providing users with seamless data transmission and a more secure authentication experience.
Additionally, NTAG X DNA has obtained Common Criteria (CC) EAL6+ certification and ensures high security by applying an asymmetric encryption technique based on public key infrastructure (PKI).
By linking with NXP’s EdgeLock 2GO service, it supports not only UID and certificate transfer but also additional certificate generation, enabling a highly secure authentication environment across healthcare and smart IoT devices, mobile and gaming applications.
The launch of NTAG X DNA marks a significant technological milestone that will enable manufacturers to more easily meet digital product passport requirements and contribute to the fight against counterfeit products. It is expected to happen.
NXP plans to use this product to provide customers with safer and more reliable authentication solutions in the future and to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market.
