Combination of on-device AI semiconductors and real-time operating systems
Targeting high-reliability markets such as aerospace, defense, and automobiles
On-device AI semiconductor startup DeepX (CEO Nok-won Kim) is set to fully attack the ultra-low-power edge AI global market by combining on-device AI semiconductors with a real-time operating system.
DeepX announced on the 11th that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Wind River, a leader in intelligent edge software.
The two companies will jointly develop next-generation edge AI solutions targeting high-reliability industries such as aerospace, defense, automobiles, robotics, and industrial automation by integrating ultra-low-power AI semiconductors and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
This contract is evaluated as a turning point that will accelerate the overseas expansion of domestically produced AI chips and present new technology standards in the global mission-critical market.
Headquartered in Alameda, California, Wind River is known for its high-reliability edge platforms, including VxWorks and Wind River Helix.
NASA Mars & Middot; has already proven its stability in extreme environments such as lunar rovers, self-driving cars, and 5G Open RAN.
Adding DeepX’s ultra-low-power, high-performance AI NPU here will allow us to safely deploy real-time AI inference on satellites, fighter jets, and manufacturing robots that have extreme power and space constraints.
Kim Nok-won, CEO of DeepX, emphasized, “When Wind River’s 40 years of know-how and DeepX’s edge AI platform meet, we can implement ‘real intelligence’ that works in any environment.” He added, “Industrial automation and robotics partners are already preparing for mass production based on DeepX chips, and this collaboration will accelerate the expansion of AI into unexplored areas such as aerospace and defense.”
“Real-time edge AI opens up tremendous opportunities for mission-critical markets, but it also brings great complexity,” said Abhijit Sinha, senior vice president and general manager of Wind River. “Our collaboration with DeepX will accelerate ultra-low-power, high-reliability AI innovations to drive incredible results across industries.”
The two companies are currently tightly integrating DeepX NPU and VxWorks RTOS at the physical and logical layers.
Through this, we plan to release reference boards tailored to industrial robots, smart factories, and aerospace and defense systems early.
The first showcase will be the Wind River Aerospace & Defense Seminar in Taiwan next month. Afterwards, we will expand our global customer base by carrying out joint promotions in North America, Europe, and Japan.
Through this partnership, DeepX plans to expand the scope of AI semiconductor applications from single device chips to entire industrial systems.
Wind River is also enhancing its product lineup with an RTOS with enhanced AI capabilities.
The two companies aim to create a new global standard for the edge AI ecosystem by establishing a multi-layered cooperation model that includes joint technology development, market-tailored solutions, and country-specific certification support.
