Official release of IAR toolchain for the latest Arm version 9.70 and RISC-V version 3.40

IAR, a leading provider of software solutions for embedded systems development, strengthens its embedded development support with upgraded Arm and RISC-V toolchains.

IAR announced on the 16th that it has officially released the IAR toolchain for the latest Arm version 9.70 and RISC-V version 3.40.

This update significantly enhances cloud-based licensing, continuous integration (CI)/continuous delivery (CD) pipeline integration, and multi-architecture support, bringing innovative efficiency to embedded application development in a variety of fields, including automotive, industrial, medical, and Internet of Things (IoT).

IAR's latest toolchain addresses the increasingly complex embedded systems design environment by enhancing open source SDKs, CMake-based workflows, and compatibility with external executables.

This enables development teams to experience consistent and traceable development processes across local development environments as well as containerized CI/CD pipelines, resulting in faster time to market and reduced R&D costs.

In particular, the Arm toolchain has expanded its support for GNU C/C and C20, making integration with open source and vendor SDKs easier, while the RISC-V version has enhanced support for DSP and SIMD instructions, as well as support for Synopsys ARC-V. It also increases reliability across the industry, including compatibility with automotive grade IPs.

In addition, IAR aims to secure competitiveness in the global embedded market by supporting efficient distributed development in a cloud-native environment by incorporating advanced DevOps integration functions.

Additionally, the IAR Visual Studio Code extension version 1.42 enhances RTOS-aware debugging capabilities, providing users with real-time operation monitoring including task and interrupt logging, multicore execution insights, and support for the Arm-based Zephyr RTOS.

This enables developers to quickly identify and resolve issues in complex embedded systems, contributing to improved overall code quality and development productivity.

“In keeping with the continuous innovation of the Arm and RISC-V platforms, IAR provides a customer-tailored toolchain to help maximize the efficiency and stability of embedded development,” said Thomas Anderson, chief product officer at IAR. “With improved DevOps integration, multi-architecture code reuse, and built-in compliance with safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62304), we believe this will significantly contribute to improving the return on development investment (ROI) in the future.”

This toolchain update introduces a continuous maintenance and update system, along with cloud-based subscription access, to ensure development continuity in a changing processor environment.

Building on the automation, security, and efficient code reuse capabilities essential to the design and implementation of complex embedded systems, IAR is poised to provide a reliable development environment for embedded developers worldwide.

IAR's latest upgraded Arm RISC-V toolchain creates a smart embedded system development environment, along with DevOps, open source, and cloud native development methods are evaluated as key solutions that will lead the standard. For more information, please refer to the IAR homepage.
