Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-Soo Lee), a global semiconductor company, has strengthened its leadership in the electric vehicle power module and safety MCU market by supplying power modules for traction inverters for the Rivian R2 platform.

Infineon announced on the 26th that it will supply power modules for traction inverters for electric vehicle startup Rivian's next-generation R2 platform.

Deliveries will start in 2026 and silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon (Si) modules from Infineon’s market-leading HybridPACK™ Drive G2 family will play a key role.

The HybridPACK™ Drive G2 boasts high efficiency and a compact design among Infineon's lineup of power modules for electric vehicles.

Since its market launch in 2017, it has sold over 10.5 million units, contributing to accelerating the transition to the electrification era.

The R2 platform is expected to achieve the effects of extending driving distance and shortening charging time by implementing high-output and low-loss characteristics through this module.

Additionally, Infineon supplies the AURIX™ TC3x safety microcontroller (MCU) and power management ICs (PMICs) for power management and system control of the R2 platform.

AURIX™ TC3x is A high-performance MCU compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL-D that ensures power stability and safety functions for electric vehicles.

PMIC efficiently manages various power rails, including battery voltage, to maximize the power efficiency of the entire system.

Infineon recently expanded its Kulim fab to introduce a 200mm SiC wafer process, securing industry-leading cost competitiveness and mass production capacity.

The 'Infineon One Virtual Fab', which connects the Kulim and Villach production facilities, supports rapid mass production of wide bandgap (WBG) products such as SiC and GaN, and is responding to the demands of global electric vehicle OEMs and parts manufacturers.

“The Rivian R2 platform is a symbolic project that is driving innovation in electric vehicles,” said Seungsoo Lee, CEO of Infineon Korea. “The combination of Infineon’s HybridPACK™ Drive G2 module and AURIX™ TC3x MCU·PMIC will provide a cutting-edge power conversion solution.”

He added, “We will work closely with Rivian as a technology partner to accelerate electrification, ensuring a stable supply through the expansion of the Kulim fab and global production network.”
