Materials Intelligence: Predicting Material Properties and Developing Customized Materials
K-Display Honor Award for contribution to the advancement of display technology

Merck, a leading science and technology company, has unveiled artificial intelligence (AI)-based material solutions for "future visual technologies," demonstrating its position as a global technology leader in the display industry.

Merck will participate in Korea's largest display exhibition, 'K-Display', held at COEX in Seoul from August 7th to 9th, and unveil 'Materials Intelligence™', a key solution for the transition to future visual technology.

This event is attracting attention from the industry as it is Merck's first official stage since expanding its business beyond displays into the field of optronics.

Merck recently acquired Unity-SC, a global leader in semiconductor metrology and inspection equipment, expanding its business from display-centric to 'Optronics Solutions', focusing on optical and optoelectronic technologies.

Reflecting this, we are announcing a new slogan, “We bring light to life.”It presents the future of digital interface technology.

In particular, this exhibition will showcase technology that predicts material characteristics and enables the development of customized materials through AI-based 'Materials Intelligence' solutions.

This is an innovative approach that can address various factors that affect display quality, such as crosstalk, efficiency, and lifespan, and is applied to various display materials, such as OLED, liquid crystal, photoresist, and encapsulation film.

Based on the continuous advancement of OLED technology, Merck is developing materials suitable for a wide range of product groups, including smartphones, TVs, tablets, monitors, and automotive displays. It also introduces optical materials and reactive mesogens for AR/VR.

We are pursuing both sustainability and technological advancement in the display industry by providing customized solutions that specifically meet our customers' optical performance, coating process, substrate compatibility, and reliability needs.

Woo-Kyu Kim, CEO of Merck Korea, said, “Merck has over 120 years of expertise in display technology and has secured differentiated measurement and inspection solutions in the optical field through recent mergers and acquisitions. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to our customers’ innovation with various solutions ranging from displays and optronics to heterogeneous integration.”

At this exhibition, Merck will receive the 'K-Display Honor Award' in recognition of its contribution to the sustainable development of display technology.

“We are delighted that our efforts to provide innovative technologies in the rapidly changing display market have been recognized,” said Yong-Guk Yoon, head of Merck Optronics Solutions Korea business unit. “We will continue to invest in research and development as a strong partner to the display industry.”o; said.

Meanwhile, Merck will also participate in the '2025 International Meeting on Information Display (IMID)' held in Busan from August 19th to 22nd, sharing its expertise in display and optoelectronic technologies.

At the opening ceremony on August 20, Dr. Johannes Canisius, Head of the OLED Business Unit at Merck Headquarters, will deliver a keynote speech and announce the winners of the 'Merck Award'.

On August 21, the 'Merck Science Connect' session will be held under the theme of 'Transition of Future Visual Technology - Beyond Displays, Optronics', where domestic and international experts from Merck, Omdia, and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology will share the latest technology trends and prospects.

In particular, discussions will be held on the future of OLEDoS and XR technologies, which are expected to provide insights into next-generation visual technologies.

Through this K-Display and IMID, Merck will present not only the future of the display industry but also its potential for expansion into optoelectronics, further solidifying its position as a global technology leader.
