Perform real-time testing and optimization for domestic customers, improving technical responsiveness.
STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company, is launching a full-scale effort to foster domestic power semiconductor talent and support domestic customers' product development by establishing 'Power Lab.'
ST has signed an agreement with Korea National University of Transportation (hereinafter referred to as Korea National University of Transportation) to establish a ‘Power Lab’ for innovation in power semiconductor technology.
This collaboration will begin in earnest on July 1, 2025, and aims to support customer product development in the automotive and industrial sectors and foster an industry-focused educational ecosystem for nurturing specialized power semiconductor talent.
The Power Lab is a facility equipped with advanced test equipment, including bidirectional and unidirectional loads from 5kW to 30kW, coolers, and high-performance oscilloscopes. ST provides specialized personnel to operate and evaluate hardware and software solutions there.
This allows domestic customers to conduct real-time testing and optimization, shortening product launch times and enhancing technological responsiveness.
Professor Lee Jae-beom of the Department of Railway Electrical and Information Engineering at Korea National University of Transport said, “Power Lab is a practical industrial field in the power semiconductor field. As a model, we will provide industry-focused experiences beyond academic approaches,” he said. “Through our collaboration with ST, we will strengthen Korea’s semiconductor technology status and contribute to the development of a sustainable mobility industry.”
“We are very honored to be partnering with Korea National University of Transportation, which has 120 years of history and expertise in transportation engineering,” said Hiroshi Noguchi, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for APeC (Asia Pacific excluding China) at ST. “The establishment of this Power Lab will not only expand customer engagement but also greatly contribute to fostering future talent through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.”
