Launch of the ultra-low-cost real-time MCU 'C2000™ F28E12x series'

Texas Instruments (TI) is ushering in an era of premium motor control with ultra-low-cost, real-time MCUs.

TI announced on the 18th that it has launched the 'C2000™ F28E12x series', an ultra-low-cost real-time MCU that provides premium motor control capabilities to home appliances and power tools.

This new product offers 30% improved computational performance compared to existing MCUs and can be applied to various everyday products such as washing machines, dishwashers, and vacuum cleaners.

TI's F28E120SC and F28E120SB MCUs excel in single-motor and power factor correction (PFC) systems.

In particular, TI's proprietary InstaSPIN™ field-oriented control (FOC) software and high-speed sensorless FOC algorithms enable smoother and quieter motor control.

High starting torque from a standstill and sophisticated vibration compensation function further enhance the quality of consumer electronics.

To address the cost constraints and lack of analog functionality faced by traditional system designers, TI integrated advanced analog peripherals such as the C28x DSP core, high-speed ADCs, and programmable gain amplifiers.

This reduces overall system cost by reducing additional components and simplifying the design..

The F28E12x series supports ultra-high-speed motor operation of up to 120,000 rpm, reduces noise generated during gear shifting, and improves stability.

The vibration compensation algorithm effectively addresses unbalanced load issues in washing machines and other appliances by reducing speed ripple by up to 60%.

TI showcased its new products with two demos at electronica India, held in Bangalore, India, from September 17 to 19.

The first is a demonstration of controlling a high-voltage three-phase motor to reduce fan noise in an air conditioning system, and the second is a demonstration of sensorless motor control for a vacuum cleaner that achieves speeds of up to 150,000 rpm.

The F28E12x MCUs are available in pre-production quantities on TI.com, with prices starting at $0.49 in 1,000-unit quantities.

An evaluation module (EVM) is available for $19, and a variety of development resources, including a motor control SDK, code examples, and a graphical configuration tool, enable engineers to easily design systems.
