Joining the FiRa Board of Directors, Leading Global UWB Standardization

STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company, is moving forward with the expansion of its UWB technology and accelerating its digital key business.

ST announced today that it has joined the board of directors of the FiRa® Consortium, which is driving the advancement of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, strengthening its influence in the automotive digital key and smart connectivity markets.

The appointment of Rias Al-Kadi to the board is formalized with the appointment of Rias Al-Kadi, President of ST's Distance Measurement and Connectivity Business Unit.

The FiRa Consortium is an industry association that aims to expand the UWB ecosystem, focusing on secure precision distance measurement and positioning technology.

ST is improving the core capabilities of UWB technology, including centimeter-level distance accuracy, enhanced security, and low power consumption, through its development of the IEEE 802.15.4ab amendment, and is integrating it into the Connected Car Consortium (CCC) digital key ecosystem to address technology implementation challenges in car access, smart home, and IoT.

ST is strategically participating in major standards organizations such as IEEE, CCC, CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance), and UWB Alliance, and is continuously developing technologies aimed at improving user experience and reducing system costs in consumer and car access applications.all.

This addition to the Board demonstrates ST's key role in ensuring global adoption and interoperability of UWB technology.

“We welcome ST’s promotion to Sponsor Level membership and are confident that Rias Al-Qadi’s leadership will further solidify the future of UWB technology,” said SK Yong, Chairman of the FiRa Board of Directors.

“Joining the FiRa board reflects ST’s technology leadership and commitment to advancing UWB-based applications,” said Rias Al-Qadi, General Manager of ST’s Ranging and Connectivity Division. “We will build a technology ecosystem that delivers the best value to both consumers and industry.”
