Luc van den Hove, Chairman of the Board, brings strategic continuity.
Imec, a global nanoelectronics and digital technology research institute, has named its next CEO, marking the beginning of a strategic leadership transition.
Imec announced the official appointment of Patrick Vandenameele as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2026.
Current CEO Luc Van den Hove will serve as Chairman of the Board, leading the organization's strategic continuity and strengthening global partnerships.
Over the past two years, Imec has built trust both inside and outside the organization through a meticulous leadership transition plan.
Luc van den Hove, who has led Imec as CEO for 17 years, will focus on managing key stakeholders and providing strategic advice as Chairman of the Board, while also supporting the successful implementation of the new CEO.
Born in 1973, Patrick Vandenameiler began his career as a wireless communications researcher at Imec after receiving his PhD in electrical engineering from KU Leuven.
Since then, he has been active as an international entrepreneur in the deep tech field, and returned to Imec in 2017, playing a key role in establishing venture and R&D strategies.
Most recently, he has been preparing for the next leadership position as Senior Vice President and Co-COO.

Toon De Proft, current Chairman of the Board, also emphasized, “In a rapidly changing world, Imec needs leadership with vision and commitment,” and “The partnership between Patrick and Luke will ensure Imec’s continued growth and global impact.”
