Expanding business scope to include medical imaging and sensor interfaces
Infineon Technologies further strengthens its position in the global sensor market by acquiring ams OSRAM's portfolio of non-optical analog and mixed-signal sensors.
Infineon Technologies Korea announced on the 4th that it has signed an acquisition agreement worth 570 million euros with ams OSRAM Group on a debt and cash basis.
This acquisition is a key element of Infineon's strategy to expand its sensor business and is expected to serve as an opportunity to significantly strengthen its system solution capabilities in the automotive, industrial, and medical markets.
The acquired business is expected to generate approximately 230 million euros in revenue by 2026 and is expected to have a positive impact on earnings per share (EPS) immediately upon completion of the transaction.
In addition, approximately 230 personnel with expertise in research and development and business management will join Infineon’s Sensors and RF business unit.
Through this acquisition, Infineon secures a complementary portfolio in the automotive and industrial sensor sectors and expands its business scope to include medical imaging and sensor interfaces.
In particular, the competitiveness of position, capacitance, and temperature sensing technologies is expected to be significantly strengthened with the addition of high-value-added technologies such as X-ray solutions, valve control, building control systems, and meters. />
Infineon CEO Jochen Hanavek emphasized, “This acquisition perfectly aligns with Infineon’s strategy in the analog and sensor sectors,” adding, “It will create new growth opportunities in the automotive and industrial markets, as well as in emerging physical AI fields such as humanoid robots.”
Sensors are a key component of various advanced industries, such as software-defined vehicles (SDV), health trackers, and robotics, and play a role in connecting the physical world and the digital world.
The global sensor and RF market is projected to exceed $20 billion by 2027.
Through this acquisition, Infineon's strategy is to continue sustained growth in the next-generation mobility, industrial automation, and medical technology markets based on high-precision sensor technology.
