MOU with KAIST, Real-world Application of AI Agents to Industrial AI
Domestic fabless startup Panesia is embarking on full-scale AX innovation for Korea's four major science and technology institutes with AI agents via Link Semiconductor.
Panesia announced on the 23rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to advance AI Transformation (AX) technology.
This collaboration was conducted as part of the '4 Major Science and Technology Institutes AX Strategy' project, which aims for AX innovation across the entire industry.
The project involves the four major science and technology institutes, including KAIST, GIST, DGIST, and UNIST, as well as 15 companies representing the semiconductor, energy, bio, defense, and robotics sectors.
The signing ceremony was attended by the presidents of each science and technology institute and representatives from major companies, and Deputy Prime Minister for Science and Technology and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon emphasized the importance of industry-academia cooperation in his congratulatory remarks.
AI agents, which have recently been attracting attention in the industry, are next-generation AI services that autonomously perform planning and execution simply by setting goals.
Implementing such services requires high-speed, high-capacity data exchange between multiple AI accelerators, CPUs, and memory, and interconnect technology to support this is emerging as a core infrastructure.
Amidst this trend, Panesia is a 'link semiconductor' that maximizes connection efficiency between devices It is a company that has been developing technology.
We have secured the entire range of proprietary technology, from semiconductor design assets (IP) that support next-generation interconnect standards such as CXL and UALink to hardware engines and switch chips.
Based on this, we are providing solutions that simultaneously improve the performance and energy efficiency of large-scale AI services, such as AI agents.
In addition, Panesia is also focusing on applying AX technology to the semiconductor design process.
The strategy is to enhance development efficiency by incorporating AI-based automation technology into the semiconductor design environment, which requires repetitive and massive data processing.
Through this agreement, synergy is expected between KAIST's AI semiconductor design research capabilities and Panesia's link semiconductor technology.
Meanwhile, Panesia raised approximately 80 billion won in a Series A investment round in 2024, valuing the company at 340 billion won. As a core technology company for the advancement of AI infrastructure, the industry is focusing its attention on its future moves.
