Realization of ultra-low capacitance and low-dynamic resistance, enhancing reliability of high-speed communications for AI servers and vehicles

ROHM, a semiconductor specialist, is working to enhance the reliability of high-speed communication for AI servers and vehicles by maintaining signal quality and protecting ICs in high-speed communication environments of 10Gbps or higher.

ROHM announced on the 26th that it has developed the 'RESDxVx series' of ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection diodes capable of supporting next-generation high-speed data communication environments exceeding 10Gbps.

ROHM stated that with this new product, it has simultaneously improved the signal quality maintenance and IC protection performance required for high-speed interfaces.

In high-speed communication interfaces, even minute changes in parasitic capacitance or resistance can lead to signal degradation, so the selection of ESD protection devices directly affects system performance.

ROHM's RESDxVx series is characterized by lowering the capacitance between terminals to 0.24pF in both directions and 0.48pF in both directions, while reducing the dynamic resistance to 0.28Ω.

This lowers the clamp voltage by about 40% compared to general products, enhancing IC protection capabilities while maintaining high-speed signal quality.

The product can be applied not only to industrial devices such as AI servers, data centers, and 5G/6G communication equipment, but also to consumer electronics such as laptops, game consoles, and smartphones.

Also DFN1Some models that adopt the 006-2W package meet the automotive reliability standard AEC-Q101 and can be used in high-speed SerDes communication environments for vehicles, such as cameras and ECUs for ADAS and autonomous driving.

ROHM explained that demand for ESD solutions that simultaneously satisfy low capacity and high protection performance is rapidly increasing in the industrial and automotive electronics markets, where high speed and miniaturization are accelerating.

Analysis suggests that a new design approach was required, particularly in next-generation interfaces of 10Gbps or higher, where the limitations of existing protection devices were evident.

The RESDxVx series entered mass production in March 2026 and is supplied through online component distribution channels.

ROHM plans to continue expanding its lineup of low-capacity ESD and TVS diodes to contribute to improving the stability of high-speed communication infrastructure, autonomous driving, and AI systems.
