Consists of HDBaseT automotive chipset, distributed playback, and Accordo 5
STMicroelectronics (ST) presented an automotive infotainment multimedia system together with Cinemo and Valens at CES 2018.
The system consists of Cinemo’s in-vehicle media distribution system, Distributed Playback, and Valens’ HDBaseT automotive technology powered by ST’s Accordo5 automotive infotainment processor and Telemaco3P telematics processor.
Infotainment has become a key element of the connected car, and as consumer expectations for the best technology in connected and autonomous vehicles increase, the ability to deliver the vehicle experience that drivers and passengers want is becoming a key competitive advantage.
Valens' HDBaseT automotive technology simplifies connectivity and ensures performance in challenging EMC environments by simultaneously transmitting high-definition video and audio, along with Ethernet and control, over a single Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable up to 15 meters.
Cinemo’s distributed playback, combined with Valens’ HDBaseT automotive chipset, is powered by ST’s Accordo5 infotainment processor and Telemaco3P telematics processor. Accordo5 is a cost-optimized processor solution for infotainment, while Telemaco3P is an automotive security processor for secure Internet and Wi-Fi access. HDBaseT Automotive connects a vehicle's Smart Antenna to a central processing unit.
“As cars become part of our connected lives, we need to ensure drivers and passengers have an increasingly superior vehicle experience, especially with regard to infotainment and telematics,” said Micha Risling, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit Valens Automotive. “HDBaseT Automotive delivers high-efficiency connectivity that addresses the most critical requirements for data transmission in connected and autonomous vehicles, including superior performance, low latency and architectural flexibility,” said Valens. “Working with ST and Cinemo, we’ve demonstrated a best-in-class vehicle infotainment solution that is just one of many applications where Valens’ HDBaseT Automotive technology can be deployed.”
“Drivers and passengers today expect from manufacturers superior telematics, infotainment, and vehicle performance, along with the highest levels of safety and security. ST’s advanced infotainment processor, Accordo5, and telematics processor, Telemaco3P, together with Valens’ HDBaseT connectivity technology and Cinemo’s media distribution system, will enable us to highlight even more effectively the technologies we provide today,” said Fabio Marchio, General Manager, Micro and Infotainment Division, Automotive and Discrete Products Group, STMicroelectronics.
“Valens’ innovative HDBaseT automotive technology and ST’s Accordo 5 automotive processor are laying the foundation for putting the car at the center of the digital lifestyle, and we look forward to working together to deliver future use cases that explore fully connected infotainment and the integration of mobile devices into the in-vehicle head-unit and RSE systems,” said Elif Ede, VP of Sales at Cinemo.
