Provides 29kHz dimming frequency per channel
Power consumption reduced from 9mA to 0.01mA
Lighting patterns can be implemented with a constant voltage power supply

Texas Instruments today introduced a new family of LED drivers that integrate independent color mixing, brightness control, and power-saving modes. The LP5018, LP5024, LP5030, and LP5036 deliver smooth, vivid color reproduction and reduced system power consumption.

The new family offers a 29kHz dimming frequency, above the range of human hearing, helping eliminate noise commonly found when dimming lighting in applications using HMIs such as handheld electronics, building automation, and home appliances. Additionally, developers can implement smoother color and brightness level adjustments than standard PWM solutions by using the integrated 12-bit PWM generator in the devices.

Key features and benefits of the LP5018, LP5024, LP5030, and LP5036 LED drivers include:

First is high resolution PWM dimming. TI's LP50xx family of devices integrates a 12-bit PWM generator that operates above the human hearing range at 29 kHz per channel, delivering smooth, vibrant color reproduction with no audible artifacts.

Additionally, the integrated power-saving mode significantly reduces power consumption from the typical 9mA of conventional devices to just 0.01mA, improving overall system efficiency in standby mode.

Finally, 18-, 24-, 30-, and 36-channel options provide independent color mixing and brightness control, while three integrated programmable banks simplify software coding and provide easy design.

Developers can download the LP50xx graphical user interface software to easily configure the LP5018, LP5024, LP5030, and LP5036 LED drivers. Engineers can jump-start their designs with the LP5024EVM and LP5036EVM evaluation modules.

The 'Various LED Ring Lighting Patterns' reference design enables sophisticated lighting patterns for finished products with a constant voltage power supply. The design uses two LP5024 LED drivers to dynamically adjust brightness without affecting contrast ratio in ambient lighting conditions.

The LP5018 and LP5024 LED drivers are available now in the TI Store, and prototype samples of the LP5030 and LP5036 are also available in the TI Store. The new LED drivers with integrated PWM join TI’s broad portfolio of LED driver ICs, design tools and technical resources that help electronics designers add creative lighting features to their systems.
