IBM announced on the 8th that it has appointed Won Sung-sik as the new CEO of IBM Korea, and that former CEO Song Ki-hong has moved to the position of General Manager of Global Business Services (GBS) for ASEAN and Korea. Won Sung-sik joined IBM Korea in 1991 and has gained experience and expertise in various IBM business sectors including hardware, marketing, global technology services, and financial industry sales. From 2011 to 2015, he successfully led the enterprise solution business at SK Telecom.

Prior to being appointed as the new CEO, he was in charge of IBM Korea's technology group encompassing systems hardware, cloud and cognitive software, and partner business. “I am deeply moved and excited to take on the leadership role of the organization where I first began my career as an industry professional,” said Won Sung-sik, President. “I look forward to leading IBM to the next level of growth in Korea.”

He continued, “I will position myself as a business partner that plays a pivotal role in the growth of our customers through differentiated strategies centered on IBM’s hybrid cloud and AI solutions,” and “As I have done so far, I will listen to the advice and opinions of our customers with an open mind and, together with all IBM Korea employees, continue to contribute to the growth and development of domestic companies.”

“Korean customers are at the forefront of adopting technologies that redefine their customer experience,” said Brenda Harvey, president of IBM Asia Pacific/Greater China. “Won Seong-sik will provide advice and input on their journey, while Song Ki-hong will be able to extend his leadership to the ASEAN region.”

Former President Song Ki-hong will move to IBM ASEAN and IBM Korea as the head of global business services. IBM ASEAN consists of six countries: Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The size of these countries is 600 million people and a GDP of 3.2 trillion dollars.
