Bridging the Skills Gap for Developers Using AI Tools
Anyone with a personal Gmail account can now install and use Gemini Code Assist on GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains IDEs, enabling all developers to use AI tools to bridge the skills gap.
Google Cloud announced on the 26th that it has released the public preview version of 'Personal Gemini Code Assist', an AI-based coding assistance tool targeting individual developers, for free.
This allows students, freelancers, and startup developers to use AI coding features without any cost burden and without restrictions.
According to a report by Google Cloud DevOps Research (DORA), more than 75% of developers are currently using AI in their daily work, and more than 25% of new code at Google is generated by AI and then reviewed and approved by engineers.
Accordingly, Google Cloud has launched Gemini Code Assist for Personal to enable all developers to bridge the skills gap with AI tools.
Based on the Gemini 2.0 model, the tool is available worldwide and supports natural language coding in multiple languages, including Korean.
This allows developers to create, explain, and improve code using only natural language prompts.
<br /> For example, a website developer might ask you to create a simple HTML form, or write a script to send an email with a weather forecast.
Additionally, the personal Gemini Code Assist supports up to 180,000 code completions per month and provides a chat context window supporting up to 128,000 tokens. This allows you to work with large files, understand the overall structure of your code, and automate repetitive tasks.
Google Cloud offers personal Gemini Code Assist for free across a variety of integrated development environments, including GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains IDEs, to help developers write better code and reduce code review times.
We also released a public preview of Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, which provides free AI-based code reviews for both public and private repositories.
Ji-Seong Lee, CEO of Google Cloud Korea, said, “We will eliminate the technology gap and create a developer ecosystem so that all developers can demonstrate their capabilities by equipping them with excellent AI tools.”
Anyone with a personal Gmail account can install and experience Gemini Code Assist on GitHub, Visual Studio Code, or any JetBrains IDE, and can share feedback on Gemini Code Assist using the ‘Send Feedback’ feature in the IDE, or directly on GitHub.
Google Cloud will continue to fine-tune Gemini Code Assist based on user feedback from the preview version released this time.
