Data center energy savings, maximum cooling efficiency, and optimal space utilization

Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a global leader in AI and data center infrastructure, has announced that its next-generation data center liquid cooling solution maximizes data center energy savings, cooling efficiency, and space utilization.
Supermicro recently announced its next-generation Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) solution, DLC-2.
This solution includes innovative technologies focused on maximizing data center energy efficiency, reducing cooling costs, and optimizing space utilization.
Supermicro’s DLC-2 solution can reduce data center energy usage by up to 40% and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 20% compared to traditional air-cooling.
It can also reduce cooling water consumption by up to 40%, and its low-noise design reduces noise inside the data center to approximately 50 dB.
Supermicro has improved its GPU-optimized servers with this solution. The 4U rack-height system features eight NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and two Intel Xeon 6th generation CPUs.
The DLC-2 features a cold plate sealed cooling structure for key components such as the CPU, GPU, memory, PCIe switches, and voltage regulators (VRM), reducing fan speeds and reducing data center cooling costs.
The DLC-2 solution efficiently drains hot coolant within the rack and resupplies cold liquid through a vertical coolant distribution manifold (CDM) to increase server density and maximize space efficiency.
Cooling capacity per rack can be expanded up to 250kW, providing even more powerful cooling performance.
Supermicro offers up to 98% liquid heat capture capability with its DLC-2 solution, and can operate with inlet coolant temperatures up to 45°C without the need for additional cooling equipment.
This reduces cooling water consumption and enables eco-friendly data center operation compared to conventional air-cooling systems.
Additionally, hybrid cooling tower and water tower solutions can improve cooling efficiency even in areas with large temperature fluctuations, maximizing the savings in data center operating costs.
Supermicro is an IT solutions company with global manufacturing scale, operating manufacturing facilities in San Jose, USA, Europe, and throughout Asia. We provide comprehensive services ranging from data center-scale solution design to network, cabling, and infrastructure orchestration, helping companies easily adopt water cooling technology.
“As AI and HPC optimized systems demand increasingly more compute performance, traditional air cooling approaches have reached their limits,” said Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro. “With DLC-2, Supermicro is enabling datacenters to increase energy efficiency, reduce cooling costs, and expand the sustainability of AI infrastructure.”
