Data sharing and high-speed transmission advantages in high-performance computing environments
Double the performance while lowering the cost compared to imported HPC servers

“The ‘Klimax-408’ is the world’s first PCIe 5.0 HPC server, and it has the advantages of data sharing and high-speed transmission in high-performance computing environments, and is superior in cost and performance compared to imported HPC servers.”

At a press conference held at El Tower on the 19th, CEO of Kokolink, Lee Dong-hak, officially announced the new high-performance computing server product 'Klimax-408' that responds to the next-generation computing environment, emphasizing that it is an innovative platform that possesses both superior performance and cost competitiveness compared to existing imported products.

CEO Lee Dong-hak said, “‘Klimax-408’ is the result of research on PCI Express (PCIe) technology that began in 2008 and several prototype development processes,” and added, “CocoLink has introduced PCIe 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 in succession, and this new product is the first server system to perfectly implement the PCIe 5.0 standard.”

He continued, “PCIe 5.0 is an important communication protocol that has been overlooked in existing computing infrastructure, but it is essential for data sharing and modern high-performance computing environments. “It is highlighted as an essential element for high-speed transmission,” he said, adding, “‘Klimax-408’ has an innovative design that minimizes CPU load by adopting a non-blocking architecture that internally distributes data traffic between the CPU and various computing devices, and stably connects up to 8 devices with a single switch board.”

In particular, CEO Lee Dong-hak said, “By implementing theoretical speeds of up to 53 gigabits in one direction and 104 gigabits in both directions when transferring data between GPUs, it will greatly contribute to the actual application operation performance.” He continued, “Actual internal test results have proven transmission efficiency that is much higher than the performance expected from a PCIe 3.0-based system, and through this, we have secured great competitiveness in that we can double the performance while lowering the adoption cost compared to existing imported overseas HPC servers.”

Furthermore, he said, “'Klimax-408' is not limited to simply improving hardware performance, but is also designed to provide optimized code automation and migration services in terms of software, enabling savings in computational costs that are tens of times greater than existing GPU accelerator methods.” He continued, “As an actual application case, in the case of an elastic wave data processing solution, a case was introduced where performance improvements of 100 to 400 times were achieved when switching from a CPU cluster to a GPU, and the possibility of adoption by the government and large research institutes is receiving a lot of attention.”

The 'Klimax-408' consists of dual CPU sockets, four 2,000-watt power supplies, and a PCI expander module that can accommodate eight high-performance GPUs. It also includes board-type expandability that can connect up to 20 GPUs in the future, taking future expansion into consideration. />
In addition, an innovative air-cooling solution, including a high-performance 120mm 36W fan, has been adopted to prevent system failures due to heat issues, while the complex signal design and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) multi-layer structure perfectly manage the demanding electrical characteristics of PCIe 5.0, thereby significantly improving stability and durability.

CEO Lee Dong-hak said, “Foreign brands have dominated the domestic and international HPC (high-performance computing) markets for years, but with this new product, Cocolink has broken away from the existing server market that depended on foreign products, and has significantly reduced distribution and production costs through domestic production and direct sales systems. In addition, through technological perfection and system optimization, we have secured a performance advantage of 2-3% over competitors’ products.”

In fact, unlike the situation where large overseas server manufacturers produce in OEM format, 'Klimax-408' based on domestic technology is expected to provide significant savings to purchasing customers in terms of overall calculation cost and operating cost by securing price competitiveness in the distribution and production stages.

During the Q&A session following the press conference, CEO Lee Dong-hak expressed confidence, saying, “For practical issues faced by customers, such as price-performance ratio, technical support, and customization potential, Cocolink plans to provide maintenance service within 8 hours along with a rapid AS network based on domestic production and R&D infrastructure.” He added, “This is in stark contrast to the long AS processing periods seen with imported products.”

Regarding the future roadmap, in addition to 'Klimax-408', various HPC products and high-performance storage solutions based on PCIe 5.0 are scheduled to be released sequentially, and development of PCIe 6.0 technology is already underway.

CEO of Donghak Lee said, “ He expressed confidence, saying, “Starting with the new product ‘Klimax-408,’ we will bring about innovation across the domestic HPC industry and play a leading role in future technology fields such as AI, big data, and cloud computing.”
