Cloud platforms are found to be driving the $12.9 billion game technology ecosystem.

According to the 'Omdia Market Radar: Cloud Platforms for Gaming - 2025' report published by global market research firm Omdia, cloud platforms are leading the $12.9 billion game technology ecosystem.

The ecosystem encompasses the entire gaming industry, from game servers and backend tooling to analytics and LiveOps.

Omdia analyzed that AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure still lead the market, and Tencent Cloud has emerged as a major player since this year.

AWS offers global coverage and a vast game development toolset, while Google Cloud offers machine learning and data analytics optimization capabilities.

Azure supports enterprise connectivity and Xbox LiveOps integration, while Tencent Cloud offers tailored solutions for game makers focused on Asia.

In the Asian market, Alibaba Cloud has emerged as a strong competitor. In addition, a growing number of game studios are adopting a hybrid strategy that utilizes specialized bare metal vendors such as i3D.net and servers.com.

The report noted that it is noteworthy that starting this year, vendor evaluations will include support for AI and machine learning (ML).

“Supporting AI use cases has become a must-have for cloud selection,” said Liam Deane, senior analyst for games technology at Omdia.

Omdia forecasts that the gaming cloud platform market will grow to $20.9 billion by 2029. AI-based analytics and operational automation capabilities will be key growth drivers, playing a key role in optimizing live game services and expanding globally.
