Combining online education and offline competitions… Supporting the practical implementation of AI-based services.

OpenAI is hosting the final round of an AI hackathon in collaboration with Korean developer creator Jocoding and startup accelerator Primer. The goal is to strengthen the product development capabilities of Korean developers and aspiring entrepreneurs by providing them with the experience of implementing AI technology into real-world services and products.

On the 3rd, OpenAI announced that the final round of its "AI Hackathon" will be held in Seoul on the 7th. A total of 3,295 participants participated in the preliminary round, which ran from February 7th to the 20th. After a thorough review process, 30 teams (15 individuals and 15 teams) were selected to advance to the final round and compete in the final competition.

This hackathon will be conducted through a combination of online pre-training and offline competitions. Prior to the event, Jocoding conducted a five-week online training program covering the entire AI service development process. Participants will utilize the OpenAI API and the coding agent "Codex (GPT-5.3-Codex)" or the Codex app to implement various AI-based projects, including web services and applications.

All participants who submit their work during the preliminary round will receive $100 worth of OpenAI API credits. The grand prize winner will receive $15,000 worth of OpenAI credits and a one-year license to ChatGPT Pro. The company explained that through this, it plans to support participants in continuously developing and improving their services.

Recently, in Korea, there has been a growing trend of AI technology expanding beyond the experimental stage into actual product development and startups. This hackathon is designed to provide participants with an experience through the entire process, from idea planning to implementation and service launch. Participants will also explore the potential of commercialization through mentoring and collaboration.

OpenAI Korea CEO Kyung-Hoon Kim said, “This hackathon is a chance to confirm the possibility that anyone can develop AI services and products using coding agents,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with the domestic developer and startup ecosystem in the future.”
