Participation of non-development roles in AI tool development… Promoting company-wide expansion by linking platforms, training, and management systems
SK Telecom has set out to expand its AX system, positioning all employees as the agents of AI transformation. The company aims to move beyond a model where a select development team creates and distributes tools, transitioning to a structure where employees in the field directly build and improve AI agents tailored to their specific tasks. This is interpreted as an attempt to go beyond simple automation in utilizing AI and transform the entire organization's work methods.
SK Telecom announced on the 16th that it has unveiled its support system and training roadmap internally, along with the goal of "One AI Agent Per Person," to all employees, including non-development roles. Under the slogan "Change Created Together, AX," the company has fully launched a system in which field practitioners directly participate in AI-based business innovation.
The core of this initiative is that it enables even employees with limited coding experience to create business AI. SK Telecom provides 'A.dot Biz,' which can be used for general-purpose tasks; 'Polaris,' specialized for marketing and data extraction; and 'Playground,' which supports network data analysis and coding. Employees can design practical AI agents by giving instructions via natural language or combining modules. The company also operates 'AXMS,' an internal support system that shares everything from idea proposals to progress updates and feedback, enabling simultaneous project management and knowledge accumulation.
The scope of application is expected to expand beyond office support to include security, marketing, data analysis, and network operations. Among the examples presented by the company, "automated security coding verification" was shown to reduce annual work hours by approximately 30% by having AI check for code errors and suggest correction directions. The location analysis solution "Litmus" was presented as an example that led to business achievements, such as supplying to local governments, by combining algorithms that infer traffic and pedestrian flow.
SK Telecom is also conducting idea contests and training to enhance execution capabilities. Approximately 180 proposals have been received for the AX Innovation Idea Contest, which has been ongoing since February; among these, some key projects have been selected for the Fast Track program, and joint development is underway with the goal of commercialization and company-wide expansion within the third quarter of this year. The company also plans to operate phased programs, including Frontier Training, Design Camps, Bootcamps, and Hackathons, throughout the first and second halves of the year.
This plan demonstrates that the outcome of a company's AI transformation can vary depending on how closely it is integrated with solving on-site problems, rather than the adoption of technology itself. If a method is established where employees directly identify areas for improvement and implement them using AI tools, SK Telecom's AX strategy has the potential to lead to a company-wide business innovation model.
