| Single-chip adaptive wireless platform
| Support for improved RF performance and scalability
| 2nd and 3rd generation, released in the second half of 2019 Xilinx today announced that it is expanding its portfolio of Zynq UltraScale+ RF (radio frequency) SoCs, supporting enhanced RF performance and scalability.
Building on the success of the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC in multi-markets, this next-generation device can cover the entire sub-6GHz spectrum, a key requirement for next-generation 5G implementations.
It supports a 14-bit ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) with direct RF sampling rates of up to 5 GS/S (Giga-samples per second) and a 14-bit DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) at 10 GS/S, both of which provide analog bandwidths of up to 6 GHz.

Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC Xilinx's RFSoC portfolio is a single-chip adaptable platform. The portfolio includes Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoCs of the 2nd and 3rd generations.

Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC 2nd Generation Block Diagram The second-generation product is currently sampling, with production scheduled for June 2019. The device is available to meet Asia’s deployment schedule and supports the new 5G radio.

Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC 3rd Generation Block Diagram The third generation products support full sub-6GHz direct-RF and extended millimeter-wave interfaces, and can reduce power consumption by up to 20% in the RF data converter subsystem compared to the base portfolio. It is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2019.
The new products monolithically integrate high-performance RF data converters that provide the broad spectrum coverage required to implement a range of applications, including 5G wireless communication systems, cable access, advanced phased-array radar solutions, test and measurement, and satellite communications.
Eliminating discrete components enables power and footprint reductions of up to 50%, making it an ideal solution for telecommunications operators looking to implement massive Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (mMIMO) base stations for 5G systems.
“We are excited to accelerate the development of adaptable, intelligent 5G infrastructure with these high-performance additions to our Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC portfolio,” said Liam Madden, senior vice president of hardware and systems product development at Xilinx. “With solutions that fully cover the sub-6GHz spectrum bands, our customers can accelerate the design and development of next-generation systems to further enhance their competitive advantage.”
Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoCs provide customers with pin compatibility across the portfolio, enabling easy performance scaling and design deployment of systems utilizing first-generation devices following the Gen 2 and Gen 3 roadmaps.
