Some violations, such as insufficient locking devices, insufficient passwords and updates
The results of a survey on the status of intelligent home networks in domestic apartment complexes showed that there were no complexes that were missing essential facilities, but there were some violations, such as insufficient locking devices, and therefore, improvements were needed.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Won Hee-ryong), and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Lee Chang-yang) announced the results of a recent survey on the status of intelligent home networks on the 28th.
According to this, as a result of investigating whether a total of 20 types of essential facilities, including home network networks and home network equipment stipulated in the technical standards, were installed, it was found that there were no complexes missing essential facilities.
In particular, the wall pad with built-in home gateway function connects home network devices (lighting, heating, etc.) within the household and provides home network services by connecting to the household network and complex network, and has been confirmed as equipment that satisfies the home gateway function specified in the technical standards.
However, there were cases of violations of facility installation standards, such as insufficient locking devices in facility installation spaces (11 complexes), non-installation of closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) in key facility installation locations (3 complexes), and violation of complex network equipment installation locations (1 complex).
As a result of investigating the certification compliance of home network devices, it was confirmed that both the wall pad and home gateway received KC certification in accordance with the certification regulations of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and thus complied with the technical standards.
It was found that security management was generally inadequate in most complexes, including setting vulnerable passwords for management office computers (management PCs) (20 complexes), using operating systems (Windows 7) for which technical support has ended (8 complexes), and not applying the latest security updates (18 complexes).
The government isWe plan to share the results of the on-site investigation with local governments, and request that the project owner or management entity take action in accordance with relevant laws and regulations for cases of violations of facility installation standards through the relevant local governments, and request additional investigations into compliance with technical standards for apartment complexes in each region.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to promote the expansion of the 'My Server Caregiver Service', verification and expansion of cloud-based security control services, and review of the introduction of the 'tentatively named Home Network Security Certification Mark' to strengthen the security of intelligent home networks.
You can apply for the My Server Caretaker service through the 'Protection Country' website, and a security expert will visit your apartment complex in person to check for security vulnerabilities in the entire home network and provide support for measures.
We will also promote verification and expansion of application of various security services, such as the 'cloud-based security control service', in which private security professionals provide remote security services to apartment complexes where systematic security management is difficult due to the lack of security professionals.
In addition, in order to raise security awareness among apartment complex residents, we plan to review the introduction of a system that grants a ‘tentative name Home Network Security Certification Mark’ to apartment complexes that have secured a certain level of security.
A government official said, “In order for apartment complexes to be safer from cyberattacks such as hacking, it is very important for managers and residents to comply with home network security rules, and above all, to have a continuous maintenance and management system for home network devices and equipment.” He added, “We will do our best to strengthen the security of intelligent home networks by cooperating with security companies, local governments, and apartment complexes to induce the discovery and application of various security services.”
