Protecting communication between web browsers and enterprise web applications with quantum-resistant encryption
As the commercialization of quantum computers approaches and the vulnerabilities of existing encryption technologies become more apparent, CloudFlare has opened a new horizon in Internet communications security by announcing a quantum-resistant zero-trust solution.
Cloudflare, the leading connectivity cloud company, is taking security to the next level with the announcement of the industry’s first cloud-native, quantum-resistant zero-trust network access solution.
This technology secures communications between web browsers and corporate web applications with quantum-resistant encryption, providing a secure Internet environment without the need to upgrade each application separately.
Existing encryption technologies serve to protect data, but the development of quantum computers increases the risk of being decrypted.
In particular, encryption algorithms used in financial institutions, medical institutions, and governments are being evaluated as vulnerable to quantum attacks.
Accordingly, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is scrapping existing encryption algorithms and is aiming to introduce quantum-resistant encryption by 2030.
Cloudflare has been leading the research and development of quantum-resistant encryption since 2017 to prepare for the threat of quantum computing, and currently over 35% of its global network traffic is protected by this technology.
In this announcement, Cloudflare announced that it is providing quantum-resistant encryption-based security on its zero-trust platform, with key features including:
First, CloudFlare is a cyber attacker who collects data and uses it on a quantum computer. Blocks attempts to decrypt data, thereby enhancing security at all stages of data transmission.
Additionally, it can safely manage employee access while maintaining the security of corporate applications such as HR systems and payroll management without individual upgrades.
Cloudflare supports end-to-end quantum-resistant security for all protocols via the WARP client, with full implementation planned for mid-2025.
“We are committed to setting a new standard for internet security,” said Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare. “We are committed to helping all of our customers transition seamlessly to quantum-resistant security.”
