“Over the past 10 years, AI performance has improved 1 million times,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, a leader in AI computing technology. “The pace of change will accelerate further,” he said, adding, “NVIDIA’s investment and collaboration in the UK and Europe will be a catalyst for the development of the AI ecosystem.”
On the 9th, CEO Jensen Huang took to the stage at London Tech Week to have a conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer about AI innovation strategy.
This meeting is evaluated as a touchstone that AI has emerged as a core element of national competitiveness beyond the past startup domain.
CEO Hwang emphasized, “AI is redefining all areas of medicine, manufacturing, and scientific research, and the UK is the country with the third-largest AI capital investment in the world,” and “If we build an AI supercomputer domestically, we can attract more startups and research.”
Prime Minister Starmer said the government was “exploring ways to use AI across government departments” and that “we are seeing the positive change that the AI revolution is having on people’s lives and jobs.”
Nvidia has pledged to make major investments in strengthening the developer ecosystem, including establishing an AI research lab in the UK.
“High-performance computing infrastructure will lead to research activation and create a virtuous cycle (flywheel) in which innovative companies are born,” said CEO Hwang.
Prime Minister Starmer has announced a £1 billion investment in computing for AI research by 2030.
The main tasks that the two sides will work together to pursue are: △ Strengthening AI technology education based on the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI), △ Accelerating research in materials science and Earth system modeling by establishing an AI technology center, △ Supporting the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)’s trustworthy AI sandbox, and △ AI native 6G research and distribution.Initiative joint promotion △5.5k GH200 GPU-based 'Isambard AI' supercomputer to be put into operation this summer, etc.
European countries are also working with Nvidia to strengthen their AI infrastructure.
Sweden is building a national AI platform with Wallenberg Investments, AstraZeneca, and Ericsson, while Germany is building a 250 million euro 'Blue Lion' supercomputer and a 1.4 GW AI campus in Paris, France, with BPifrance and Mistral AI.
