OpenAI's AI support for Korean creators has provided an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and influence on the global stage.
OpenAI, a global artificial intelligence (AI) research institute, has officially launched 'Creative Lab Seoul' to support domestic creators, and has begun providing full-scale support for Korean creators to advance into the global stage.
This marks the first Korean launch of OpenAI's global creator program, Creative Lab, and serves as a testament to Seoul's status as one of the world's most vibrant creative communities.
A total of 21 artists will participate in 'Creative Lab Seoul' and carry out creative projects using OpenAI's latest video generation tool, Sora, and ChatGPT, which has image generation capabilities, for one month.
Participants are strengthening their creative capabilities through various benefits, including early and free provision of tools, hands-on learning support, interaction with the global community, and opportunities to present their work.
Through this program, OpenAI will adhere to the following principles: △Creator-centered principles (ownership of the work belongs to the artist); △Transparency and trust (potential of the tool)It is realizing four core values: △Community-centered (building a sustainable network) △Practical support (providing step-by-step know-how that can be applied immediately) and △Clearly disclosing the limitations.
“New forms of creation are born when artists lead and tools follow,” said Jake Wilczynski, OpenAI’s head of communications for the Asia-Pacific region. “Based on this philosophy, the Creative Lab will actively support Korean creators to expand their creativity and influence on the global stage.”
The launch of the Seoul Lab, taking place in Seoul, the city with the largest number of Sora global users, is seen as a symbolic example of OpenAI's commitment to building trust and strengthening long-term partnerships with Korean creators.
In the future, OpenAI plans to expand its activities through various programs such as exhibitions and collaborations.
The creative process of the participating artists will be sequentially revealed through the @SoraOfficial Instagram channel, and communication with the public will also be strengthened.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is also participating in 'Seoul Light DDP 2025 Fall', the world's largest festival of 3D media facades for atypical buildings, in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation.
At the opening ceremony held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) on the evening of the 28th, Jake Wilczynski will deliver a congratulatory address, and artists Choi Se-hoon and Timo Helgert, supported by OpenAI, will present AI-based media art pieces created with Sora.
