Joint planning for national strategic areas utilizing ExaOne
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and LG AI Research Institute have joined hands to build a reliable AI ecosystem.
ETRI announced on the 1st that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG AI Research Institute for joint research on artificial intelligence (AI) data compliance and large-scale language models (LLM).
This collaboration aims to strengthen the reliability and security of AI learning data and promote innovation in national strategic fields, contributing to enhancing domestic AI technology competitiveness.
The two organizations will promote cooperation on 'EXAONE NEXUS' for AI learning data compliance verification, utilization of 'EXAONE' for development of foundation models in specialized fields such as defense, bio, and energy, and exchange of open source and AI technologies and discovery of joint R&D projects.
In particular, by jointly researching AI Agent-based data compliance technology that traces the source of AI learning data and verifies legal risks based on ExaOne Nexus, we plan to establish a systematic and reliable data management system that can be utilized in public institutions and industrial sites.
In addition, the ultra-large language model 'ExaOne' developed by LG AI Research Institute is being used in national strategic fields such as defense, bio, and energy. We are jointly planning and promoting a specialized domain foundation model. This is expected to increase the utilization of AI in specialized fields and lead to practical industrial innovation.
The two organizations will operate a standing cooperation committee to systematically manage the results of their collaboration and will also conduct demonstration projects for application in the industrial and public sectors. This will go beyond simple technological exchange and focus on bolstering domestic AI research and development capabilities to strengthen global competitiveness.
ETRI President Seung-chan Bang said, “The key to AI development is the use of reliable data and large-scale models,” adding, “Through this collaboration, we will create innovative results in national strategic fields.”
LG AI Research Center Director Woo-hyung Lim also emphasized, “Based on our collaboration with ETRI, we will expand the scope of ExaOne’s use in expert fields and contribute to the development of national AI technology.”
